This may seem like a stupid question, and please take no offense, but why copy the data, when it can be played fine right from your NAS?

I do this and never seem to have any issues. Of course having the media right in your core, may yield some performance gains, but if you have a working NAS on the LMCE network, you should just be able to use it. And then perhaps save your 2nd drive for storing more media, in addition to what your collection already has.

Just a thought.

I have seen this as well, while I was using the USBtoSerial adapter. As my system had a USB-UIRT on it, on a reboot, sometimes the device ID would change and /dev/ttyUSB0 would become /dev/ttyUSB1. I have since then purchased a serial daughter card for the header on my mobo, and now the issue has gone away. I thought it was just dumb luck, but now as you have experienced the same thing, I guess we can chalk it up to the USB bus.

My system is currently functioning with a CM11A, 19 X10 devices, and 3 Insteon Devices.

Thanks. I will give it a try this evening.

I hope it resolves my issues.

I have a similar issue at my house. I have the internet coming into a linksys wireless N router, then from there I use port 1 to the core. This gives the core and all lmce internal network connections the internet. Then from the switch connected to the internal network, I have 2 access points hooked up.

This way, if I am working on the core, all wirelessly connected machnies can just switch networks.

See attached diagram, for a visual explanation.

Installation issues / Re: login as root on md
May 19, 2009, 07:45:43 PM
If by "log in" you mean using the linuxmce user, I have seen this before. The MD is treated as an appliance, best I can tell, and for the user linuxmce to connect to it, it uses credentials almost like a SAMBA CIFS share. It does not have a passwd file on hand for a specific user, just the sambahelper user, and root. Again this is mostly speculation on my part, but I have tried this since 7.04 and I got the same result as you. I usually sudo to root on the core, and then ssh out from there to my MD's. As to it being a bug, of this i am not sure, as it has been the same for me since I started.

Perhaps one of the more learned sages here at LMCE can better address that.

But I am glad it worked for you.

Installation issues / Re: login as root on md

I thought on the MD's the only user was root.

Try this.
- ssh to your core using the user linuxmce and the passwd you created on install.
- then sudo su to root on your core
- then ssh to the moon## of your md
- this should automatically log you in as the root user, no passwd

Something else to try,, if you have a keyboard available on the MD:
- ctrl-alt-F2 (gets you to a local console)
- at the login prompt type "root"
This should also log you in as root, no passwd required

Ok, so I am really getting into scenarios now with my current LMCE installation.

In my home I have the wife, and two small girls, 3yrs old and 2yrs old. Every  night at supper time, there is always a flurry of activity, and griping about leaving the TV, and coming to the dinner table. So, to help eliminate this issue I have created the "Supper Time" event on my Lighting menu in the Living Room using the Advanced Scenario Wizard.

What this does is stops all media playing on both the Living Room MD and the Playroom MD. Then it turns off the lights. Next it turns on the Dining Room light. Now, there is no guessing what the girls have to do. They see the Dining Room light come on, any distractions on either TV are gone, and this helps resolve the issue of them not coming to the table.

My question is this.

Currently its stops the media, and this is fine. But it would be really cool if it would simply pause it. Now here is the question, I have it set to "MH Stop Media" and it turns them off. I am wondering if I use "MH Play Media" if it would pause it. I have not tried it yet, just thought I would throw it out here.
If I push play on the remote for either system, it pauses the media, I am wondering if "MH Play Media" would issue the same command.

This would truely make it even more cool than it already is.

Thanks for your time.

Hmm. Well that field says 600, which I understand means 10 minutes, yet when I exit media, the TV turns off almost instantly.
I will try to play with it some more this weekend. Also I notice another line there:

"Uses Infrared" and then the number "0" , which I am assuming means off. I wonder if I set that number to be "1" instead, perhaps it may make a difference, as this V is definitely controlled by infrared.

I will do some more messing around with it tomorrow, when I am at home.

Hi all,

I was wondering if there was a way to adjust the delay that the TV screen powers off after exiting media.

For example, if I am watching MythTV, and I exit or choose "Off" from the UI2 menu, the TV on that MD turns off instantly. Like immediately.

Is there a way to adjust that time to say something like 5 minutes. That way I can after turning off MythTV, choose something from say the video menu without having to wait for the TV screen to power back up again?

I can't see a way in the templates, is this something to be addressed in the scenario for said event?

Here is a snip from my "House to sleep mode" Lighting scenario in the master bedroom, (for when I turn in for the night)
1st Image.
And here is the "Timed Event" that I use to wake up the MD's (Power them on)
2nd Image

This is the ultimate home control system. It NEVER ceases to amaze me with its seemingly infinite potential.

Have you tried changing the windows workgroup settings to "LINUXMCE".

This solved a host of my windows networking issues.

Not to hijack this post, but has any development gone into integrating hulu as a media device on 810?

I only ask because when I watch google videos, and youtube stuff at home, after a certain amount of time firefox window disappears, and I am left with a black screen.

But having a hulu media device, now that would be pretty sweet.

Thanks for the quick response. I will make the changes. And then we will see what we get.

Great find on this by the way.

Hi all.

I have added a X10 motion sensor, and EagleEye MS14a.

I have added it using the instruction under X10 in the wiki. I have modified my cm11a to be a "Specialized" interface as per the instructions, and assigned a House Code to the MS14a.

I added the motion sensor as type "4" for detecting motion. I a, wondering if it should be added as type 1 for security events? Or is there a way to add it as both types?

Either way, it is always in a state of tripped. Does anyone have any insight on how to resolve this issue?

I think this may help with my issue, however my 4th word is not a number. It is a letter. See attached Image:

As it is the letter C. I am wondering if it is changed to say E or G if that would increase the time?

Any thoughts.
