Hi @phenigma!

Sorry, I'm a bit late... During this night I tried to install the whole system per "internet install" method. Success.... The MD is running already. Everything OK, need to solve only medibunturepo error (key) and some minor things - after I come home later today...

But just FYI: the internet connection was OK, no problems at all, also the sources.list was like it should be - no avenard repo or such...

...knew that... ok, reinstalled the whole system - like in latest tries, system automatically set eth1 as outside, no matter how the cables were... Then, in the web interface, i swapped the interfaces, changed the cables, everything runs ok.

Then, i run "sudo /usr/pluto/bin/Diskless_CreateTBZ.sh"... in the end, that "Mythtv" problem with broken packages stil repeats himself, until I end it with Ctrl-C.

Then, i try to run network install of the MD, but that error "Unable to locate configuration file" still stops the process...

Now I'm really clueless...

sh*t... BUT... I changed my cables... The original distribution installation switched the interfaces also!!!

IS there another way to change it the right way?!

sure.. ok, after "first" installation (distribution),I needed to change eth0 and eth1 with

sudo nano /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules

,
since the "outside" NIC was during initial install defined as eth1, and then started "LinuxMCE" install

now it is like:

EXTERNAL_IFACE   eth0
EXTERNAL_MAC   00:27:17:b5:33:2f
EXTERNAL_IP   192.168.1.2
EXTERNAL_NETMASK   255.255.255.0
EXTERNAL_DHCP   1
INTERNAL_IFACE   eth1
INTERNAL_MAC   00:24:01:88:52:75
INTERNAL_IP   192.168.80.1
INTERNAL_NETMASK   255.255.255.0
GATEWAY   192.168.1.1
DNS1   192.168.1.1
DNS2   192.168.1.1

could be that a problem?

the same happeneed also with the snapshot from 16th of September

but is there something to do, since i need that MD pretty much... Or rather an internet install?!

tried once again from work, the error ist still there - what installation concerns...

Hi!

Trying to install the latest snapshot 23304 from 23/9/2010...

The core install went OK, no problems at all..

When i ran "sudo /usr/pluto/bin/Diskless_CreateTBZ.sh" to prepare diskless MD, i got that

The following packages have unmet dependencies:

Since more then 10 mins there was no change, I ended the process with "CTRL+C"... - OK, MD should at least somehow ran without it, i thought...

After that, I started my MD (it is an Acer EEE Box b202), when something like that comes along:

Trying to load: pxelinux.cfg/default
Unable to locate configuration file

Boot failed: press a key to retry, or wait for reset...

And now I'm stuck...

Is this somehow connected?
What to do?!

Hi all!

I want to watch the internet stream TV thru Linuxmce-->Mythtv...

Generally in Mythtv dedicated backend, I would need to set a static IP address to one of my NIC's (ex. 10.29.23.XXX) - to the one, that is used "instead" of the supplied set-top-box).

As you see, the IP nember is completely different from our 192.168.80.xxx system - so i would need to add another NIC into the core or MD, with mentioned subnet etc... and after that set a "digital recorder" in mythbackend setup to that NIC...

Has someone tried that already? Do you see some difficulties already now - before I (maybe even) break my working setup?

simon_b - that is a simplistic assessment. There are MANY features of LinuxMCE's media-only functionality that are difficult/impossible to replicate in other media centres, without even looking at the other stuff LinuxMCE provides. Such as, an interconnected/distributed media platform using MDs; virtualised remote control interface (on-screen, remote, etc) of all media devices around the house from any other media device, PDAs, mobiles, web pads, web browsers, PCs ... even custom devices that can trigger specific purpose DCE commands. And this is all _before_ you consider the interaction between the media environment and other features such as home automation and telephony (starting media playback triggering house settings like lighting levels, telephone calls pausing media, or automatically being redirected to voice mail to prevent interuptions, etc)

I have toyed with many of the other facilities that LinuxMCE offers, but right at the moment I am only using the media facilities and I still would not consider moving to another "media player" platform... its not as simple as media-only=another system as anyone who has used LinuxMCE for a while will atest. Sure, if your primary concern is a slick, eye-candy GUI and are not bothered about anything else then XMBC becomes a good alternative, or even Apple TV if you are in the camp of UI is everything, functionality is nothing!

No question... LMCE is (like said) GREAT platform, we all try to integrate into our homes, also due to the reasons, you mentioned.

TJL only wants to setup one HTPC, like he wrote, so there will not be any need for media distribution, NAS, PDA's etc... without too much linux knowledge... SO that's why i mentioned XBMC, some WIN+Eventghost (for remote setup) would be an easier solution for him...

I don't have any trouble running apt-get update & apt-get dist-upgrade before running the pre install script

Your eth0 is your outside NIC? The other way the install does not work ATM...

Hi TJL and guys...

We all know, the LMCE is an amazing system, that has its advantages (unfortunately) in home automation, system control etc...
My personal opinion is, if you are looking only for an HTPC, then try Kubuntu 9.04 + XBMC... or due to your ATI card maybe some other OS, that has better support for it - the linux+ATI might struggle a bit with some "exclusive" movie formats and definitions....

Dreambox is an Linux based satellite receiver - very well known in the world of "cs" DVB-S due to its network interface and capabilities, connected with this.

  im extremely frustrated with LinuxMCE and with its inability to connect. 

matt4914 ... it's not LinuxMCE, that is giving you (us) trouble... it is your (our) linux knowledge, that is giving us open questions, open issues, problems etc. - i know this from my experiences with ALL linux systems. we, "windows BABIES" do really have only small and short knowledge about the processes behind the GUI, and that's the real problem...

i've been there, i am there

Like said... connect the motherboard NIC to the router, nothing else to the second (later installed) NIC.

if you need DVD, then everything should go very smoothly

are you sure, you connected the "onboard" NIC with the router? the second (new) NIC with the Mac (or nothing) --> after that installed Kubuntu 8.10?

There has to be after install: eth0 - connected... and eth1 - disconnected (if I recall correctly)...
