Installation issues / Re: MediaCenter Remote Control stopped working
« on: September 26, 2007, 01:53:57 pm »
in the Media Center launcher you can tail various log files. this will display real time messages. You can unplug the IR device and plug it in again to verify what is recorded in these log files.

Can I upgrade the divx codec without effecting the workings of LMCE?
Many of my my transcoded movies was transcoded using the divx 6 codec. Some even contain menus that is not supported in the earlier versions of divx.
which version comes with LMCE?

I had the same issue but fixed it. All my volumes was set to 100% and still it was very soft.
What you needd to have a look at, is alsamixer. it is a program you have to run in a new terminal window. set the main volume to about 75%. If you set it higher than this you will loose quality. let your amp do the rest.
You can set every thing from there. Gain, bass trebble etc etc etc...

Developers / Re: Will linuxmce work on a unicorn board or with mvix 760-hd
« on: September 21, 2007, 05:37:57 pm »
Hi,
No, the mvix is a stand alone media player. You copy the media like divx or mp3 to the device then hook it up to your tv and hi-fi system. When you hook it up to your core, it will pick up the media that is on there, and you will be able to play the media.

The idea I had was to use sleep mode. If we can find a way to program a button from the infrared remote to get the pc into s3 mode it will save a lot of energy. Then options like wake on lan will ensure that the core will come online again when needed...

Nope, they are not. But a little trick I have learned a long time ago. Write at the lowest speed possible for maximum quality disks

You don't need a wireless card in the LMCE box as long as you have a wireless router
Nope, Don't have one of those. I've got the wireless card that came with my A8V deluxe motherboard.
Me and my girlfriend only recently moved in together, and thus, there still is a lot of wiring and work to be done. Wireless routers etc, is at the bottom of the list :-)

Thanks Hagen, I will get the wireless card in my lmce box soon, then that will be a very good option to use.
as to the other part of my question: I uncovered the scariest thing ever!!!!!!
Seems xmltv or EPG is not legal is south africa. a little further investigation stated that MultiChoice (our premium content provider) recons that this will enhance piracy???? WTF???
They WANT us to move back into the dark ages. This is what happens when clueless people become executives. Not having an electronic guide is not going to stop pirates to pirate. Having it however  will make life easier for the tons of MCE users in SA.

Users / 2 questions. Myth TV & video output
« on: September 20, 2007, 02:39:21 pm »
I live in south africa and it does not seem like mythtv have any channel info for our 4 default channels that every one get. In what format are these? Might make my search easier if i knew what I'm looking for. it oviously downloads some sort of xml file to populate these fields.
The the moment I only have 1 MD. The machine is as a matter of fact not in the living room, but in the study. I have made a special cable using CAT5 shielded to transport the video and audio in a single cable. Now the problem is that when i go in the wizard and select svideo the screen I'm using goes blank and to video goes to the tv. Is there a way that i can have it in clone mode? if not, what tool can i use to remote desktop to the kde environment from my xp laptop?

Hi All,
Does any one know if it is possible to add some sort of compression while ripping dvds?
Im in the process of adding some of my most watched dvd's to lmce, but do not want them to take 7 or 8gb per movie. Is there a way I can rip them as avi? Any one know if there is a linux equivalent of divx converter that can be used. even if it has to be 2 processes. I can rip them as .dvd then just use an app to convert the .dvd file to .avi. At the moment, i ripped 3 movies, and im now copying them to my laptop. I will convert them from here, and then copy them back and delete the .dvd files. Surely there must be a better way...

Users / remote vs pda as oribiter
« on: September 17, 2007, 01:36:02 pm »
I've been having great battles with my self, my pc and lots of the linuxmce documentation.
But i cannot get my HTC Herald (p4350) with WM6 to act as a propper orbiter. I have installed both the Orbiter_treo (that lmce sends by default) as well as the CE one with no luck. Th Xscale orbiter does not look like it supports bluetooth, and the orbiter_treo connects, and lists all the media, but once you select a movie, or song, then it comes up with the screen with play, close or delete. No nothing on that screen is clickable.

So I found this:

Can any one tell me if these logitech remotes are supported. I could not find anything that states it is supported, but cannot see why it would not be. It is a very basic remote.

I found why auto discovery did not pick it up...
When i did the partition for kubuntu, i told it to mount the media on /MediaSVR
last night I plugged in another hardrive, and auto discovery found it. Seems like auto discovery will only work if it is not mounted to a folder yet.
