Evening Andrew,

I connected the unit up and I am now getting a 65% signal strength on BBC and an 82% on ITV MUX's so I hope that is enough to rule out the signal but I just tried to tune it again and got the same response

Code: [Select]
dcerouter_112507:~# sudo scan -o vdr -p -u /usr/share/doc/dvb-utils/examples/scan/dvb-t/uk-CrystalPalace > channels.conf
scanning /usr/share/doc/dvb-utils/examples/scan/dvb-t/uk-CrystalPalace
using '/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0' and '/dev/dvb/adapter0/demux0'
initial transponder 505833333 0 3 9 1 0 0 0
>>> tune to: 505833:I999B8C34D999M16T2G32Y0:T:27500:
WARNING: >>> tuning failed!!!
>>> tune to: 505833:I999B8C34D999M16T2G32Y0:T:27500: (tuning failed)
WARNING: >>> tuning failed!!!
ERROR: initial tuning failed
dumping lists (0 services)
Done.
dcerouter_112507:~#

Is 65%-82% not enough? I cannot find a 'signal quality' percentage though...

Everything else has worked really well but I am battling with this big time mate

Hmmm...just read the above. Can you confirm that you are doing a;

Code: [Select]
sudo /etc/init.d/vdr stop

Before running the scan command?

Cheers

Andrew

I have to run a 'sudo su -' before I can run the scan command, does this matter? If I try to run the command 'sudo scan...' it fails with 'file does not exist (or something like that. If you need clarification on this I can advise when I get home from work tonight.

Sorry, didn't have any time last night, needed to spend some time with my wife because I am off for a stag doo tomorrow in scotland! Perhaps I should download the latest alpha for 8.10 on Monday and start there? You reckon its a good idea?

Hmmm...no I would wait at least until the Beta's ;-)

Can you fire up Konsole in kde's desktop and run the following ls command for me;

Code: [Select]
ls /lib/firmware/2.6.22-14-generic/<return>

Copy/Paste the output from the above command in a reply here please.

Cheers

Andrew

PS Enjoy the stag night...hope you've been in 'training'...the Scots know how to do a stag night ;-)

I have some other modules loaded because I have some TV cards and some other devices attached to my Core that you don't have installed. Apart from those differences your Core seems to have all the expected modules.

Could you attach a copy of your /var/log/syslog file please to your next post here. I can then see whether your KWorld Dual-Tuner is starting up correctly.

Hmmm...ok it looks like the modules needed by the KWorld are not loading - see the af9013 & af9015 errors in the syslog.

I would suggest re-installing the package again as described on my Wiki page here http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Kworld_KW-DVB-T_399U

Hey mate, I have reinstalled the package, same problem.

I have attached my syslog file again...do you reckon the tuner could be faulty? Maybe I should plug it into my windows box just to double-check....anyway the wife is calling so I look forward to your response and will check back tomorrow!

Howdy Andrew,

Well oddly enough I plugged the K-World into my vista machine and it scanned and picked up all of the channels so at least I know that its working. Do you have any other suggestions. Maybe I should try and build from the CD's instead of the DVD's? Really stuck mate and really keen to get this box running...

Cheers

ok...so the KWorld is working fine. It must be that there is a problem with the installation of the driver package. Can you explain in detail each step you have taken (and what you see on screen) to install the driver package. There maybe a small error somewhere.

All the best

Ok, I download the tarball from your link, open it with ark and extract the V4L2xxxxxxx.deb file into the default location (/home/linuxmce). Also ensure that 'open location' is ticked. Once it is extracted, I click on it, this launches the Package installer. I select reinstall package, enter the linuxmce password and it loads successfully. I then reboot and then
Code: [Select]
sudo /etc/init.d/vdr stop and then run the scan command as in your post. Is there something else that I am missing?
