Hauppauge Nova-TD-500 installation issue

Hello All,

I am having a problem with the installation of my new Nova-TD-500 DVB card in my core, in that it is not recognised by MythTV.

I already have a Nova-T-500 installed in my core, working no problem (apart from the dreaded "USB disconnect issue - http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=5593.0). When I decided to buy another, I received the Nova-TD-500 in a Nova-T-500 box.

According to http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Hauppauge_WinTV_Nova-T_500_PCI#Installing the newer Nova-TD-500 card is recognised "out of the box" by the upcoming Ubuntu Linux 8.10 release (this also includes Mythbuntu 8.10), so I am assuming that using LinuxMCE 0710 is going to cause a problem.

Does anybody know of a fix for me to get this newer card working under 0710 please? Any help would be very much appreciated.

You have to rebuild the device driver modules to support it.

Additional steps before doing v4l build (maybe not needed but don't hurt):
apt-get install build-essential fakeroot kernel-package

Install latest v4l-dvb sources as per instructions at
http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/How_to_build_from_Mercurial

From memory you just need to do the steps up to and including "Build the modules".

I am running using modules built with this procedure.

If its working under 8.10 then great... but everything I have read about the TD says its a card to steer well clear of under Linux.

I am very much aware of the "diversity" model fiasco, and rang Hauppauge the other day to check it out (as I thought this was a diversity model). The chap on the phone assured me it was not. "But it's a 'TD' and not a 'T'", I said - no, it's not a diversity. "But it has 2 antennas" - no, the second one is a dummy, only 'ANT1' is actually connected to anything! Obviously, I took this all with a pinch of salt.

I've been having another problem since I rebuilt my core (last motherboard fried, so new build had replacement motherboard, and this new TV card) - when starting the machine, it would freeze on either the very first boot screen, the grub screen, or the kubunutu loading screen (seemed to do something different every time). Anyway, moments ago I removed the NOVA-TD-500, and the core starts up fine.

So indulis, I'm sorry you went to the trouble of posting these instructions for me, but I think I'm going to get rid of the card and try and get hold of the older version that I already have. Hopefully Hauppauge will swap it for me.

Well if it has the twin aerial sockets... then whatever Hauppauge told you its definitely a TD in our experience. Returning it sounds like the best option.

There are a couple of older version Nova-T-500s on eBay if anybody else is having this issue.
