OK- 3 computers later, 3 OS's later (ubuntu 710, kubuntu 610 and lmce using kubuntu 710), and 3 usb drives later, still no luck.

I've tried a 2gb OCZ usb stick, a pqi 4gb stick and a 8gb patriot memory.  Only the 2gb stick says that the OS is missing; the other 2 say that the usb device is initializing, but then the device boots up Win CE.

Any other suggestions?

I write the stick like this:

bunzip2 webpad.dd.bz2
dd if=webpad.dd of=/dev/sdX

where sdX is your SD stick.

This is for a WebDT 366? We do not support the 360, yet.

Thom-  yes, this was one of the 366's from the ebay auction and I used the same process for writing the dd to the stick- I am using the gamm1 version posted earlier in this thread.

Tim- at least 1 (the 8 gb stick) has ready boost- I will try to uninstall that and try again.

Thanks

Perhaps an idea to check the MD5sum on the downloaded image?

Good though with the u3, but I ran a utility and it says that u3 is not on the drives.

My md5sums:

Thanks Tim,
If you get a few minutes, can you post your md5sum so I can compare?  I'm trying one last thing tonight with a windows box and a windows based dd program- took hours last night to copy the image to my drive and that one (the patriot) didn't work this AM, but going to try again with the OCZ.  Not sure why it would matter.

If that doesn't work, I'll send you the $$ via paypal and see if you can get a flash drive shipped w/my other order.

OK-  I know I'm not this dumb.   I bought 4 new flash drives tonight, all => 2gb and all did not have u3 installed on them (verified before purchasing)

2 are pny, 1x sony and 1x DANE Electric.

I used the following commands:
sudo bunzip2 webpad-gamma1.dd.bz2
sudo dd if=webpad-gamma1.dd of=/dev/sda1

I can't believe that 7 flash drives have problems with the software and I have a hard time believing that the software has problems as that Thom and Tim have used it successfully.  Hence, I am doing something wrong or my WebDT 366 is not accepting the information.  All 4 of the latest flash drives caused the 366 to give the "Missing Operating System." error.

Tim-  please expect a Paypal and PM tomorrow.

Thanks,

deffcon

Hi,

Maybe a stupid action but i was qurious about the orbiter, now it comes, i managed to install it on a samsung q1, but of course problemes with the display driver so far i can see, is there i way to adjust parameters to add the driver for the samsung q1 and touchscreen drivers ( on the new ubuntu mid, the touchscreen works ) , maybe in single mode i can adjust these parameters, but need the root maintenance password, anyone who can help me with this, maybe there are more people with an similar device.

Thnx,

I used the following commands:
sudo bunzip2 webpad-gamma1.dd.bz2
sudo dd if=webpad-gamma1.dd of=/dev/sda1

WARNING make sure you know what disk you are working with.

/dev/sdX where sdX is your usb stick

WARNING

I think I see your problem
Try
sudo dd if=webpad-gamma1.dd of=/dev/sda
Instead

P.s. got your pay-pal

Oops- never responded.

For the sake of completeness, Tim's (tkmedia) solution was right no- I was using the wrong command with the extra "1" on the end of the command.

Changing this made all the difference and the DT366 flashed without a hitch.  Now to expand my wireless network so the device is functional in all areas of the house.  Understandably the pages load slowly when there is a notable distance between the wireless router and the device, but snappy as in Thom's videos when the connection is good.

The suspend feature was a nice surprise.  If you press the power button the device will suspend and (pressing the button again) awake flawlessly.

Tim and Thom- thanks for your help.
