DCT 6200 support
« on: January 05, 2008, 06:56:00 am »
What is the best way to connect my DCT 6200 cable box.

Is there improved firewire support

right now? we have no direct DCE device for the DCT-6200, so the best way is currently via IR....

althouuugghh....

it is very doable to make a native firewire device that can control both the DCT6200 and DCT6412 via firewire as a DCE device that both LinuxMCE and MythTV can control....

anyone want to take a crack at it? or should I? I figured i'd use the code from the 6200ch.c changer as a start.

for now tho... just use the DCT6412 device template, by adding it manually in the setup wizard...device category PVR.

I had a DCT-6200 early in 2007 and improved the Firewire control of the box by MythTV to the point where I was happy with it. But this code is only in MythTV SVN, not in trunk. We're hoping to do a MythTV release in Feb/March, and I'll generate LinuxMCE packages for this shortly after the release.

The MythTV 0.20.2+fixes in LinuxMCE 710 can control a DCT-6200 via firewire, but the setup is problematic and sometimes needs to be reconfigured after the DCT-6200 is rebooted or another device is added to the bus (I used a Firewire hard drive to test the fix which is in the next MythTV release.)

For now, I would recommend Thom's solution of using IR control.

danielk: when someone figures out a stable way to control via firewire, we should turn it into a DCE device, IMHO.

(this way, it could even be possible to use even the LiveTV portions of it directly in the system without an intermediate tuner)

Thanks guys got it working with ir now.

Is it me or is the ir a little flaky or is it how I am placing the ir blaster.

I am using a USBIRT and the blaster that came with my mce remote.

I would recommend getting a Xantech 286 double emitter.....and affixing the emitter to the window of the cable box... increases reliability a ton.

tkmedia, what MCE remote are you using. Can you provide some details as to how you got the blaster that comes with the remote to work. I was under the impression from another post (http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=3369.0) that the blasters that come with MCE remotes wasn't supported by LMCE.Thanks

I am using the MCE remote with an USB-IRT (not the reciver that came with the remote) and pluged the ir blaster that came with the mce remote into the USB-IRT
