Controlling Denon AVR2310 Receiver on hybrid 810
« on: April 28, 2010, 07:41:08 pm »
Just hooked up my Denon AVR2310 Amp and it was auto detected as the Denon AVC-A1SRA (RS232). Which will do for now! Mostly same commands.

Main volume and mute works on my orbiters/remote straight away.

I have two questions:
1. How do I access the many other functions this receiver has programmed as ruby codes? Should it appear graphically on my orbiter? Have I missed a step?
2. Is it possible to have the amp go into standby once I stop playing media? I can't find the setting in scenarios.

I believe it should go into standby once media playing is stopped but you can turn this on/off by going to the web admin > A/V Equipment find the piece of equipment and then click the advanced button.  You will now be on the device page.  find 'Ignore On/Off' and set it to 'On', this should make the device go into standby whenever you stop playing media.  if this is set to On already then this is not the issue.

I set mine to Off to stop the reciever going into standby because when using computing the reciever would stay off

I have a different reciever though

CHT has a proper device template already in their Dianemo/Cascade systems for the Denon AVR2310 rs232 control using their 'bash' serial control rather than ruby...  I remember Andrew and posde had discussed bringing this template functionalilty to LMCE but at the time no one was using the 2310 in LMCE to test, this may be a good opportunity to do that.  Just a suggestion...

Thanks for the quick responses.
@techstyle
Have applied that setting and will check to see if the amp goes into standby. Don't use the core for internet so no sound shouldn't be a problem.

@ phenigma
I remember reading that thread. I got the impression dianemo's software development had taken a different direction which is why the bash approach might not work under lmce. That said, if I am wrong, am happy to be the guinea pig.

Failing that I will probably create a new ruby template (if I can). Might also need to work on the pnp aspect as clearly this amp is not the Denon avr-a1sra (despite the similarity) so any pointers for doing this would be appreciated.

Well our bash style device templates have been available for some time - and we have dozens of customer systems with multiple Denon's controlled by it too.

The current template we use supports Power On (from standby), Power Off (to standby), Mute, Vol up/down and Input Select. The template responds correctly when the MD goes into sleep mode by sending the Power Off (to standby) command...if an IR remote button is pressed, or the MD is remotely controlled from another Orbiter, it will be woken up again with Power On (from standby).

We'd be very happy to help someone with a Denon 2310 (or another rs232 controlled Denon model) update the current Denon template so it uses our bash code instead of the ruby code. We don't want to break the existing Denon template blindly in 0810. If we break it, we'd like to do so with a working bash version!

So if b4rney contacts me via PM we can arrange to do some tests with his 2310 & 0810 installation and get the template working correctly...and then we will get those changes into the svn for everyone else to have some fun with.

All the best

PM sent. Thanks for all the responses.

Hopefully Andrew's tried and tested bash style templates can be integrated with 810. Will keep you posted.

As a sidenote ... the 'test' button in:
web admin >> AV Equipment >> AVC-A1SRA (RS232)>> AV Properties
.... does not work, but the vol up/down and mute on the remote does.

No matter what I 'test' (including vol up/down) nothing works on this page.
Strange

Hi Barney,

That reminds me that we have not installed/tested our Denon device template on your system yet. Apologies for that...I was out most of last week and its hectic this week too. I will email you as soon as I think we have a window to test it on your system...maybe tail end of this week.

All the best

Just a quick update on the standby for this device.

Good news. The latest 0810 snapshots/builds correctly send this device into standby after a timeout without any user intervention or changes to the templates. Still using the in-built Denon AVC-A1SRA device to control the AVR2310 (it is autodetected as the AVC-A1SRA).
