Users / New DVB Backend wich is userfriendly and is only 2MB?!?
« on: June 01, 2009, 10:48:35 am »
Yesterday I started playing with a backend I found in the XBMC forums.

It's only a 2MB .deb file and runs happily on my 8.10 testserver.

For me it does what VDR and MythTV never made possible... I never get them patched correctly and in the end I just run in to dependency issues. All I want is to see the channels I pay for on all my MD's.

It has a webgui for setting up, and it's just way to easy to set up... I started thinking "is this a joke?".

With only 2MB, it is able to detect my DVB card (i had installed S2API drivers), and it was identified as a DVB-C card and I could select cable providers. I selected Norway, Canal Digital. And it added a few transponders.  It did not have all (like any other software I have seen) but then things started happening in the monitoring window. It was scanning the transponders automatically, auto detecting new transponders and after 1 minute or so it had a complete list of channels and transponders?!?

On the same page there is a Probe button to add channels to the frontends, and when pressing that, it tested every channel for open or encrypted and added only those channels which where open to the frontends.

It even has a integrated Card Client, and I added my Dreambox, which is where my subscription card is located. Now I did a new probe, and it added also the channels I had on that subscription card :)

The EPG started filling up automatically on all channels and I could record, shows.

All this was done in the webgui. Recordings are done in MKV and play on LinuxMCE.
It even supports recording of my HD channels.

So can this be uses for LinuxMCE? The backend seems complete, the webgui is done, easy to install, no patching, works out of the box... But what about the MD's? Well, it's a backend that streams to any frontend...

It uses HTSP:
http://trac.lonelycoder.com/hts/wiki/htsp

Since there is no support for that on LinuxMCE I have tested it on XBMC and I must say I'm impressed! It works :)
Just added a URL and that was it, I could browse channels and start them. Pause also work.
Since XBMC has VDPAU support the streams where not using much CPU.
On SD channels there was no difference when VDPAU was off, but HD channels where unwatchable without VDPAU.

The backend is called TVHEADEND and you can find it here:
http://www.lonelycoder.com/hts/

The online manual is good and you find it here:
http://www.lonelycoder.com/hts/tvheadend/docs/2_1/index.html

Lonelycoder also makes a frontend, but I did not like that much.

Does anyone know it the HTSP streams can be added easily to LinuxMCE?

Installation issues / Fiire remotes in 8.10

My Fiire remote runs as a normal 2 button mouse in 8.10.
Is the software for the Fiire remotes not installed in 8.10?
Anyone know what to install?

Installation issues / Software RAID in 08.10 not detected.
« on: January 29, 2009, 01:56:57 am »
Anyone know what to do to get the Software Raid from 07.10 detected in 08.10 alpha1?

cat /proc/mdstat shows my Raid as active, and all drives are used.
No Raid is visible in the Webadmin and LMCE does not find the media on it.

Developers / WM5 - WM6.1 PlutoMo
« on: January 03, 2009, 10:13:44 am »
I'm trying to get PlutoMo for Windows Mobile working on WM5 - WM6.1.

What I want to do is:
1. Compile the PlutoMo so it works on WM5 - WM6.1
2. Fix the Basic skin for 240x320 PDA (missing buttons and stuff that does not fit)
3. Make a skin variation for the HTC Touch HD, 480x800 or 800x480 http://www.htc.com/www/product/touchhd/overview.html

I have set up the HA-Designer, and I have VS2005 Pro with the WinMobile SDK.

Can anyone push me to the correct source code for WindowsMobile?
I have downloaded the source from the svn following this wiki:
http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Source

Developers / HA Designer Skins folder?!?
« on: January 03, 2009, 09:04:50 am »
I have followed this wiki http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Installing_HADesigner
And yes HADesigner now runs.

Starting with the first screencast and trying to open 1255 I get a error.
"Cannot find bitmap: C:\PlutoSkins\Basic\Buttons\Lights\squareb.png"

Where do I find the PlutoSkins folder?
Can I copy it from my Core?

Users / Licensed video decoders and drivers for LinuxMCE?
« on: August 04, 2008, 11:05:25 am »
Does anyone know which decoders and drivers Fiire are using in their MD's? Spesifically the Fiire Invisible.
Can I buy those decoders and drivers somewhere?

My 2 MD's are using a Abit AN-M2HD mainboard with Nvidia 7050 graphics. It is most likely not the same mainboard, but it does probably have the same chipset... On my MD's I am not getting video-phile quality HD decoding and de-interlacing with alpha blending and all the OpenGL effects.

This is what Fiire say's on their website:
http://www.fiire.com/fiire-invisible.php
Software: LinuxMCE 0710 with licensed video decoders and drivers to enable video-phile quality HD decoding and de-interlacing with alpha blending and all the OpenGL effects.
Video: nVidia 7050 graphics

I changed a motherboard in my livingroom MD. PCI Bus didn't work. It came up as a new Media Director....
I was going to delete the old MD, but I messed up and deleted the Core's MD :(

Now, can I add the Core's MD manually, or do I have to reinstall to get it back?

Users / Installing a LinuxMCE Core with Nvidia 8500GT...
« on: February 22, 2008, 04:55:56 pm »
I have installed LinuxMCE on serveral machines now and learned from everyone of them. This one was the hardest to install...

Before trying the DVD installer like I usally do, I tried the CD version. I did not want to wipe the drive.

1. I started with installing Kubuntu 0710 64bit without internet so no updates.
2. After a reboot, I connected the Internet cable to my modem and a cable to my switch.
3. I inserted the first LinuxMCE 0710b3 64bit CD and installed the installation routine and started it.
4. It asked to install the Nvidia driver and I selected YES.

Aftere a few minutes of installing it rebooted to a black screen...
I had not used CD2 yet.
It was not done and not at the wizard.
There was no picture on VGA or DVI (I had 2 monitors connected).
CTRL + ALT + 1 did not work and I had no idea of what had to be done.
So I went with the DVD install instead.

I tried installing 0710Beta3 DVD 64bit with a Nvidia 8500GT card installed in my server.

1. Prepared a HD that culd be wiped 200GB.
2. Booted from the DVD
3. I chose to install LinuxMCE 0710 from the menu
4. Black screen!

I have not selected a HD yet, and no picture at all. Both VGA and DVI are connected.
I have installed this DVD on several servers and know that it works well and that the install works.
Could this be the problem many people are having with these cards?

This should be the time when the DVD asks for a drive to use.
Having installed this disk before I knew what to do next.

5. I pressed 0 + Enter Nothing
6. I pressed 1 + Enter DVD started installing but still no picture
(Knowing well how the DVD works I know this part takes time)
7. Still no picture but the DVD ejected, so I removed it and pressed enter.
8. It rebooted and picture was lost after the Bios picture.
9. It rebooted again and now I could hear the AVWizard beeps (still no picture on VGA or DVI)
10. I pressed 1 for DVI and it beeped once and showed me the AVWizard!
11. I tried changing resolutiong to 1280x1024 and 1024x768 but all came up 640x480?!? I went with that for now.
12. The setup wizard came up in 640x480 so I just followed it.
13. The GUI came up in UI2 like I had chosen in 640x480.
14. I pressed CTRL + ALT + 1 and logged in with linuxmce/linuxmce
15. I edited the xorgconf with the following command:
Code: [Select]
sudo vi /etx/X11/xorg.confFor those who do not know vi, insert button lets you edit, then press esc to exit insert mode and press : to type commands.
Code: [Select]
wq is the command for write + quit and press enter.
16. To stop LinuxMCE to mess with my new xorg.conf I edited Xconfigure.sh and added exit to the top.
Code: [Select]
sudo vi /usr/pluto/bin/Xconfigure.sh17.
Code: [Select]
sudo shutdown -r now made a reboot.
18. After a rebuild the UI was now 1600x1200

Users / Is the RAID expandable?
« on: February 22, 2008, 12:27:15 pm »
I just changed my Motherboard in the core to one with more sata ports I had lying around...
I can confirm that the software raid still works after changing motherboard even with differen type of sata controller.

I reinstalled LinuxMCE and it found the RADI without my help :)

Now that I have more ports, I have added a fourth drive and was hoping to expand it from 3xRaid5 to 4xRaid5. Is it possible?

Anyone have any more info on how the raid in LinuxMCE works and what package is used?

Users / Will VDR support DVB cards in MD?
« on: February 20, 2008, 02:27:15 pm »
Just as asked... Will VDR support having DVB cards in the MD like MythTV does today?

I use both DVB-C and DVB-S, and my sat cable comes in the living room. My cable outputs also come in my living room, but I have extended those to all my rooms....
