I am using this mother board on 2 MD's now and I can reccomend it on both Core and MD.
http://www.uabit.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=32&Itemid=48&page=1&model=383

It's got integrated GFX and HDMI + Optical SPDIF.
It uses AMD x2 64bit CPU's and in 0710Beta3 they work great in 64bit.

That board looks great! Any idea how tall it is with a CPU and cooler? I'm looking for as slim a case as possible (small is beautiful!) for MD purposes, if anyone has any suggestions?

Or too underpowered? One day I'll find a tiny kick-ass machine that costs nothing to use - and I'll buy loads of them!  ;D

I'm personally using it cos it was in an old machine that I've been testing LMCE on. When I get serious, I'll buy all new hardware and make a kick ass system, but until then its "make it work for as cheap as possible"!  ;D

Using VGA, monitor definitely supports both resolutions.

I am using an NVidia Ti4800SE with UI2.

Is your cable plugged into the DVI or VGA port on the card? Plug it into the DVI one, even if you need to use a converter. I have this card and it took me ages to work this out! It uses the DVI port as the default output! I don't know how to change it though...

It would be well sweet if the N770 could be used to stream LMCE to in a similar way! I bet that would be a programming nightmare though!? I'm soon to install the orbiter software on mine (when I get a spare evening!), but it would be cool if another app could be developed to do something like that on the link...

I really like this idea! Started off reading the thread just out of curiosity, but am now sold on the idea! I plan to put a MD in my kitchen, and think that this would be a really neat idea!

Does anyone know of a good equivalent that we europeans can get hold of without having to pay twice the cost of the unit in shipping?  ???

VDR inclusion would be wonderful! Been trying to work out how to use that for a while!

I'm not sure if its the same problem, but I had issues with my NAS drive too. It didn't find any files there, despite MANY attempts to sync it etc. Have a read of this thread:

http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=2649.0

It might be the same thing? I fixed it in the end by deleting the device and adding it manually:

Hope that helps!  ;)

Cool, thanks for the advice!

At the moment I've put the old cards back into the machine, just to get things working again, but will try it with the new ones later and let you know how I get on!

Installation issues / Re: Koolu Media Director??
« on: October 09, 2007, 06:08:44 pm »
I think you're right Andrew - this is the reply I just got back from Koolu:

Quote
The Koolu unit is able to output up to 1920x1440 as an analog VGA signal. For video and performance purposes, we recommend the video be 720x480 and in MPEG-4 format.

With respect to supporting the menus, it should support them with alpha blending provided two things:
1. The colour mode used is 32-bit
2. The menus do not require any 3-D acceleration (the AMD Geode only has 2-D acceleration)

As such, the menu will work, but performance may not be as quick (ie: changing menus) as on a regular desktop.

The laptop does have some of the pictures showing up however - this made me play around a bit and I resized one of the pictures to a smaller resolution and it then showed up. So it looks like it is a problem showing pictures of a certain resolution and greater.
I have not experimented enough to prove this 100% or to find the resolutions that cause the problem, but a workaround might be to create a copy of the picture you want to use and resize it for the screen saver. Bit of a pain I know.

Mate! You are a genius! Resizing my pictures to fit a 1024x1024 area worked perfectly! Nice one!  ;D

Just fired an email off to them asking about graphics etc. The FAQ on the site says that they do ship to the UK for 96 Canadian dollars (about £47), which when added to the price of the Thin Client (~£97.50) means the whole thing would cost less than £150! I've suggested that if it works with LMCE, they should market it to this community!

The price is REALLY attractive! I wonder if they ship to the UK?
