How to view Version of linuxmce! And upgrade it to the newest

Hey linuxmce guys.

I have been running linuxmce 8.10 in some time now, but im not shure if im running the B2 or the beta.

I what to know how to see what version of linuxmce im running ? what is the terminal command for that or
how to se it on the linuxmce webadmin ?

This page http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/LinuxMCE-0810_beta is showing the newest updates, but how to upgrade.

I tryede to upgrade it whith thes commands but no look, the only thing it picked up was Nvidia driver.
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

#  Find the version of installed modules, then run
  sudo dpkg -l \*pluto\* 

One may have to add sources to /etc/apt/sources.list to access the latest beta updates.

Hi, thanks for the replay.

When I do  sudo dpkg -l \*pluto\* i get alot of info about the version.
fore exsample   pluto-xine-pla 2.0.0.44.10030, but i cant figure out how to see the version on the http://wiki.linuxmce.org if this is the latest version.


Is this site  http://deb.linuxmce.org/ubuntu/dists/ the right one to add from to the sources.list.
And how to see which folder to add to get the lates updates ?

This is what I know.

To know what version you are running you need to run in terminal.
uname -r 

that will give you your kernel version.

to upgrade. 

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Note: doing dist-upgrade can break some programs specially once the linuxmce is up and running. I am not expert but that is what i learned from experience. They say you only need to run it once. its up to you.

As you can se it fails to download some of the Packages.
Is ther any one who can tell me how to do an upgrade ? or shuld i reinstall with this link and the latest ISO http://linuxmce.iptp.org/snapshots/ ?

No dist upgrade after LinuxMCE has been installed.
dist upgrade will most likely destroy your system and you have to start all over again.. even say so in the installation guide.

only update and upgrade, should be enough.
 

Eypone, those archive errors are known(read a similar thread a few weeks back)
I had the same question as you a while back(me too also started with the beta) and yesterday I went back and checked the versions and they where indeed not the latest. Not even close... at least not compared to what can be found in the beta2 deb that you linked to.

open question:
what about those files that is located here? (they to be used or not?)
at least my sources.list _did_ not refer to those
