Update Available - New Internet Radio Favourites UI Screens
« Reply #362 on: July 08, 2013, 08:12:50 pm »
We have released the first of a series of updates that will bring more and better integration with Logitech Media Server's Internet Radio features. Todays update comprises of improved and re-designed UI screens and an optional new UI Skin called 'St Georges' that replaces the 'TV Recordings' button on the 'Dianemo' skin home screen with an 'Internet Radio' button. If you choose the 'St. Georges' Skin and regen after updating your system you will automatically see any Internet Radio favourites you have set-up in LMS displayed in a new UI screen after pressing the 'Internet Radio' button on the Home screen. This new Screen automatically pulls in LMS metadata about the Radio station selected including the station ident cover art for example and the current show cover art in the Player screen.

With the St Georges skin all you need do is regen your Orbiters having selected the new skin, setup some Internet Radio presets in LMS (see the Wiki for details on doing this http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Dianemo_S#Configuring_Internet_Radio_Services_from_Logitech_MediaServer) and almost instantly your presets will be visible in your Orbiters directly from the Internet Radio button on the Home screen. If you choose to the Dianemo Skin then you should follow the setup procedure described in the wiki to make an Internet Radio scenario button appear in your systems External Sources menu screen. With either Skin updates or changes to the Internet Radio presets are automatic - No regens are required to see changes (ie like for Music or Videos).

See the attached Orbiter screen shots.

As usual please run the updater as described in the Dianemo S Wiki page to get this latest update and any others that your system may not have received yet. All Dianemo updates are free to all existing Dianemo customers.

All the best

Andy

We've added support for the new Triax HMX 8x8V & HMX 4x8V IP/Serial Controllable HDMI Matrices to Dianemo. These matrices have built in 5-Play (HDMI, RS232,IR Send/Rec & IP) over a single CAT5 outputs and just require a small receiver in-room. The matrices include POE power supply to power any receivers attached to them. The receivers can be up to 100M away from the the Matrix. Simply add a Device Template #2050 as a child device under the 'Core' in the devices tree.

See more info here on the Triax site; http://www.triax.co.uk/Products/HD%20Distribution.aspx

As usual please run the updater as described in the Dianemo S Wiki page to get this latest update and any others that your system may not have received yet. All Dianemo updates are free to all existing Dianemo customers.

Wow. I didn't know the BDT-220 could be controlled via IP, is there a protocol sheet somewhere? :)

Thom - here's the command set for the currently available Panasonics. Basically if the device has an iOS or Android App then you can be sure it's IP controllable. Uplink has a setup that allows him
to sit in the middles between the App and the device and observe whatever codes/protocol is in use. However in this case I found most of the codes via Google. We then just verified them with Uplinks 'man in the middle' rig;

Host: An IP address specific to your device. I went with a static address 192.168.1.201
Port: 80
HTTP POST as follows:
POST /WAN/dvdr/dvdr_ctrl.cgi? HTTP/1.1
User-Agent: MEI-LAN-REMOTE-CALL
Host: 192.168.1.105
Content-Length: [length]

cCMD_RC_[command].x=100&cCMD_RC_[command].y=100
Where you would replace [command] and [length] with the following depending on the action needed:

NOTE: Please note that STOP does not work on my DMP-BDT110 and I am looking for a command for the Display button. Also, if anyone knows of any Status commands, that would be nice to know as well.

Update Available - Follow Me, Time Code and FF & REW Supported for UPnP devices
« Reply #369 on: September 17, 2013, 05:12:10 pm »
We have released an update that adds support for 'Follow me', Continued playback from where this movie was last watched to and FF & REW to UPnP devices that support these features. This brings UPnP devices such as Smart TV's & Media Players into line with traditional Media Managers in terms of supporting these key media playback features. In fact CHT, from Sept, is now only recommending Media Managers be used in Home Theatre's where the flexibility of i/o and other connectivity options offer some advantages.

We have tested our new UPnP software with Sony, Panasonic & Samsung Smart TV's, WD Media players and Raspberry Pi's running XBMC (RaspBMC - http://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads). Other Manufacturers UPnP enabled products may also work too as we interrogate the device now to find out its capabilities. Please let us know your experiences if you have other UPnP based products.

As usual please use the Updater script to download this update and any others that your system may not have installed (including normal Ubuntu updates too).

All the best

Andy

Hi,

thanks for info. Does this mean that Raspberry PI with xbmc can be used as a sort of light Media browser/player for Dianemo and that media can be pushed to it ?

How do you find Raspberry PI as media player? Can it cope with videos ?

Thanks in advance,

Yes installing RaspBMC on a Raspberry Pi essentially converts it into a UPnP media renderer (remember to purchase a video codec license to get accelerated video playback). You just simply add a UPnP device to your NC for each UPnP device you have  and allocate them to rooms just like you would with a Media Manager and your done (see the Dianemo Wiki page for details of how to do this). Once setup you can then push video to the Raspberry Pi from your Orbiter by setting the Orbiter to the room that your Raspberry Pi is in and then browsing to some video - again just like a MM (some video files may not seek on all UPnP devices - it depends on their support in firmware).

Essentially the Raspberry Pi is a way to 'upgrade' an older TV or video projector to have basic SmartTV capabilities. All the UPnP devices i mentioned in my earlier post above work the same way from the Web Admin setup & usage from the Orbiter perspectives. Performance on the Raspberry Pi when playing video with hardware acceleration is excellent and full 1080p.

If you think about it Media Managers or Media Directors these days are rarely used to their full capability ie all that hardware and i/o etc local to the TV for controlling stuff. And of course MM/MD's are complex to setup, have a big energy footprint and are physically huge compared to a Rasperry Pi or a SmartTV. We dont use MM/MD's any more in our commercial installations for this reason.

All the best

Hi,

thanks for info. At last, my MD will be replaced with RPi...

- I'd just like to ask if also RPi with 256M of RAM is perfoming ok or do you recomend only 512M of RAM?

- I've read on several places that OpenElec is generally faster than raspbmc. Do you find any problems regarding raspbmc for media play and responsivness of menus ?

- we absolutely love UI2 screensaver on MDs - can something similar be done with RPi ?

- do you have any other plans with RPi - maybe as "light NC" for simpler installations ?

- sometime ago in history (Pluto) I remember that we talked about connecting several systems together (for instance having LMCE installations on several different locations but connect them into "logical entity". Any plans in this direction?
For example, I'd like to have vacation apartment also covered with Dianemo (but much lighter system) and see those devices in my central system at home....

Thanks for great efforts and work,

regards,

Bulek.

I want to be clear - we are using the Rpi as an UPnP media renderer that we can push video streams to and control. We are not using the Rpi as a traditional MM & MD.

Hi,

I understood right... Thanks for response... In our case, MD was used more or less only as media player, so RPi will fit perfectly in.

I just wonder:
-  if anyone explored possibilities to do few things automatically (change TV input) when media is pushed to it (I know MD can do that and we got spoiled...)
- does it matter how much RAM in RPi (I have quite few of them lying around with 256M RAM and only one with 512M) ?
- raspbmc vs. OpenElec as default OS for RPi ?
- do your clients miss UI2 screensaver ? We do, so I wonder if anyone explored possibilities of something similar on RPi ?

Your experience will help me a lot...

Thanks in advance,
