Data Disk lost after latest update

Hi Guys

I have just updated my core and now my data disk with all my movies and music does not want to mount.
It was working fine before the update. Was there something changed and this is a known problem?
if not let me know then I will send you the logs..
I can see on the Orbiter it is loading but is not showing any movies under media. When I look in webmin it say device not registered..
Please let me know if this can be fixed.

Hi,

Are you using Public or LMCE directory tree?

Go into webadmin at bottom of left hand screen open " Show devices tree".

Open Core find your storage disk and check PK_Users.

If it says Public you'll need to delete the device and re-add using LMCE directory tree.

Hello,

I'm having the same issue after linuxmce update to alpha 2.29 on 20090815

No media is available from orbiter on the core hybrid or MDs, however media is actually present
and the storage devices PK_Users is "Use LMCE's directory structure" for each windows share.

I verified that the media is actually present in two ways:
First, in web admin / Files & Media | Media Files Sync
Under the home/public/data/videos it shows:

Files on disk
 Windows Share-PublicShare [36] 
 Windows Share-d2 [34] 
 Windows Share-t1 [35] 
 tv_shows_1 
 tv_shows_37 
 tv_shows_47 
 tv_shows_68 

And each of the seven directories has the icon for "Exist both on disk and in database"
And we can browse to each individual video file in the web admin.

Secondly, the files are browseable on the network at
\\DCEROUTER\public\videos
This network folder has has the same list of four tv directories and three Window Share directories.  So they are being shared by the NAS and successfully found and reshared by dcerouter.

However, none of the media is playable on the orbiters.  And they don't show up on the hybrid or MD orbiters when we change the orbiter options for video to sort 'by filename' then only the tv directories appear.

I have also verified the version is alpha2.29
on web admin login page version is 2.0.0.44.09072222170 (which is alpha2.26)
and in web admin Advanced | Software versions
pluto-orbitergen = 2.0.0.44.09081322226 (which is in alpha2.29)
[is there a better way to verify the current version]

Hi,

My Core/Hybrid and MD show video on 2.29.

From core when you do /mnt/device/XX/public/data/video then ls -  no doubt files are there!

When you check device tree for shares everything is on-line?

Pigdog, gadget and myself I think all experienced similar things-  mine seemed to break with the 27 alpha from which I think generated 28 to fix it and then updating to 29 made things worse.  I did a full restore of my entire system today- 4 mds, 4 orbiters and 2 nas- dns323 any another.   Everything seems to be working great-  only oddity is that when lmce found the nas it didn't ask if a password was required so I had to go into the admin pages and manually add it.

Kind of a pain with no DVD, but I think you'll find the best luck starting from scratch

Password on the NAS, I've only been asked when my NAS had one programmed for initial setup for LMCE.  If it didn't have one required I wasn't asked.

Yes, all the shares are present in /mnt/device/34/public/data (and device 35 & device 36) with all media files.
So this is consistent with what I reported seeing in the web admin media files and the network share view.

Our last install from scratch was 20090511 alpha2.19 and I've been swamped and so haven't been testing much lately.  I did the update and dist-upgrade yesterday and now the media is not accessible from the orbiters  (and the MD's are still at alpha2.19).

Has anyone else upgraded to 2.29?

We are very much hoping that there is a way to heal our core since our last install from scratch took many hours due to the requirement to download the entire lmce system for the core and then for each MD.  My understanding from reviewing other threads is that a DVD and a cache facility is on the horizon, but not here yet.  Is that accurate?

Bottom line, is there a way to convice the core to make the media available again? 
And if not, is there a way to use a DVD or cache?

Cache will be fixed in next alpha 2.30...

Thank you for the link to the thread from Charles / rocketlynx.  It sounds like the underlying issues may be the same.  I'm able to see all media in Admin-> Files & Media | Media Files Sync - and verified that it is there in the filesystem and shared from dcerouter on the network.  But it's not accessible on the orbiters.

Sounds like alpha2.30 will solve our issuse and set the conditions for much quicker future updates with cache on the core - and available for MDs!

I'm really hoping someone has a cure (or that A2.30 comes out very soon).

ok, quick update

I deleted one share - Windows Share-PublicShare [36], and it's server - Yellowstone.
quick reloading the router after each.
Then I rebooted the core.

I waited a while to see if Yellowstone would be rediscovered.  It was not, so I manually re-added it to include name, ip, mac, username,  password.

Then I ran the share scanner script described at: http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/SMB_/_Samba_NAS_Configurations


dcerouter_112841:/home/radmin# /usr/pluto/bin/Configure_1837.sh -d 90 -i 192.168.80.236 -m 00:16:01:BB:04:80

The PublicShare immediately was presented on the orbiter and I selected it and it was added as device 91.

It hasn't yet shown up, but interestingly, Windows Share-t1 [35] now shows up under videos and Windows Share-d2 [34]  now shows up under audio.  (t1 is mostly TV AVIs and d2 is mostly movies and PublicShare is mostly music).

So, something has fixed itself by about 30% - I just wish I knew why & how...

I also tried to 'encourage' the core to make the media available by running Cinfigure_1837.sh against the server that hosts d2 & t1 as follows:
/usr/pluto/bin/Configure_1837.sh -d 29 -i 192.168.80.248 -m 00:12:3f:e5:52:41
but it didn't seem to have any affect.

I welcome any additional thoughts,

Well I just left it as I know it was working before.. and after a day or so it just came back on line.
Maybe something with all the db updates in 2.29
