HDMI does work with the 1.0.20 ALSA release.

The only way I've been able to get S/PDIF to work is with the breakout board (search ebay for ASUS SPDIF). For $20, it's worth the easy installation. There is a way to get both S/PDIF and HDMI working at the same time with some alsa.conf adjustments, but you lose 5.1DD.

Hey Matt,

i don't want to use hdmi for sound, so they don'y have to work at the same time,
i will use my digital receiver to listen, will i get DD then, if i use the bracket.

The reason i want HDMI sound is so that I don't have to run extra cable to my marantz as all my sources are connected to marantz and than to my project from marantz.

daddylicious,

I chuckle every time I read that nick :) Yes, if you use the bracket you will get DD.

naiknb,

I haven't tried HDMI on its own so I don't know if you will get more than just the stereo sound you had under mythbuntu.

Matt,

I have my hdmi connected to my tv and my reciever hasn't got a hdmi connection.
And no extra bracket yet, so sound is just stereo for now.
Thanks for the reply.   ;D

Arjan,

Did you upgrade to Alsa 1.0.20?

If not, use the Alsa upgrade script: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=6589810

Start it with ./AlsaUpgrade-1.0.x-rev-1.17.sh -di

If you already have it, make sure to re-run the AVWizard and select the appropriate output and to enable DD and DTS. I tried changing the settings at first throught the web admin and for some reason it didn't take. When I ran the wizard, though, it worked right away.

Hope that helps!
