SOLVED nova hd s2

Guys, I am contemplating on making the switch to the current version 8.10 (alpha2?). I am currently running 7.10. So far it is running rather nicely, except for some glitches with my MD (eee-box) where I had to rebuild and patch up the image several times...and some media files which I can't play because they don't show up on the orbiters.
So far so good, the only remaining question is, whether or not my TV-card will be supported out of the box already, or if I have to manually install it, like I had to do on 7.10

Hi,

Well, I saw this...

The Nova-HD-S2 uses the same firmware as the WinTV-HVR-4000 quad-mode card, so any information on the HVR-4000 is applicable. It apparently works out-of-the-box on 2.6.28 kernels, so as Intrepid uses 2.6.27, you need to compile the latest v4l-dvb driver. You aslo need to download the dvb-fe-cx24116.fw firmware file. This is all straightforward and is explained in detail on the Linux TV WIKI:

Hi,

About 4 hours.  Follow the wiki instructions... http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/LinuxMCE-0810_alpha2  ...just the top of the page stuff.  You'll have the 180.11 Nvidia drivers installed.

the good luck of pigdog was certainly neccessary...but it didn't help
my eee-box wasn't working "kernel-panic - not syncing" was one big issue I couldn't resolve...the other one was my TV-card.
So I went back to 7.10 and am still fighting to get my tv-card running again. I don't know if the v4l-dvb doesn't like the old kernel anymore...so far I had no luck with my card being recognized.

Hi,

I had some kernel panic stuff that was related to acpi - maybe turn on/off in BIOS.

tftpboot the default file has acpi=off I had to turn it on or comment out to get a MD to build.

Don't know if that'll help you.

Thanks, I also checked in the bios about the acpi and changed the value...but that didn't help either.
So for now I think I'll just await some further development in 8.10

I would just really love to know whats up with my TV-Card. I got the firmware, put it in the right place, compiled the v4l-dvb...but my card doesn't get recognized:

as far as I can see, the firmware seems not to be loaded...but I have no idea why!
Have you tried actually reading that log you pasted in here?  It clearly states both the problem as well as the solution.

Well, obviously I am missing something, otherwise I wouldn't be asking.
So as I understand whats written in the log is, that  my card is not recognized (yet) and I should either pick one of the existing cards- which are listed below or updating to the latest version.
Well, that is about it...and that is as far as I get. I did follow the wiki on this http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Hauppauge_Nova-HD-S2
with the current result. I got the v4l-dvb package from linuxtv.org did a make and make install. When I was doing the make, it gave some complaints about the kernel.
I downloaded the firmware, extracted it etc. I did follow it to the letter...actually if you copy the commands and paste them in putty you really make sure not to make mistakes on your own
The sad part is, that I had it working before I decided to try 8.10 a bit prematurely and now i can't seem to repeat my steps from before. I got my eee-box running again nicely, but the TV-Card....
So please enlighten me, where I can get the appropriate files, if the ones I have are not working.

I finally got the card working again this is what I did:

and it works like a charm :-) The only thing I changed was the firmware, since the url in this tutorial was dead.

I would like to make the change, but I cannot create an account to login to the wiki. I fill out the form and submit, but I get an error message about missing information
