Implications of a kernel upgrade?
« on: June 28, 2009, 08:22:41 pm »
I think i might need to upgrade the kernel on my 0810 A2.2 Hybrid to get my DVB-T card working.  What are the implications to MCE if i upgrade from the current build 2.27-generic to 2.30?

Is this a bad idea, and do you guys know what kernel will be included in the upcoming 0810 beta (and final release?).

Thanks.

I dont think there should be an impact, as long as it is built the same way that the current one is.
The kernel that makes it into release will be whatever is current in the kubuntu repositories at that time.

Thanks.  I guess il give it a try and see how i get on, if i do go through it i just hope it cures my DVb-T card as well.  As ever i will report back if it works.

Presumably if the newer kernel kills my MCE install i should be able to boot to a different kernel from GRUB and then roll back to the current version in MCE.

http://kernelnewbies.org/Linux_2_6_30#head-0815c4b1380cc7b05ea6f39877856d3b51590cbb

Lists the changes in the kernel reported to be working with the Kworld card and V4l.

See how it works unless anyone can see something missing from the kernel description!?
