0810 alpha2.20 (?) installation experience

Hi,

I've installed the latest alpha on a dedicated drive of my 0710 hardware yesterday. I followed the instructions on the front page from May 14th. The installation basically worked fine there are just three slight issues

1) I had to manually tweak udev naming rules for my network *before* running the LMCE installer for my external network was detected as eth1 while the internal one was eth0. The installer produced a lot of errors on setting up dhcp an such.

2) After rebooting into LMCE my keyboard layout was changed (DE -> US). no idea why that happened (or if it is necessary

3) The install did not install the nvidia drivers (as it should do according to the front page article) my system is still running on nv driver instead.

What am I to do with the video driver? is it safe to use KDE desktop to install nvidia restricted driver (version 180)?

At the moment, the installer is quite picky. eth0, or eth0 and eth1, are needed.

You should be able to change that in the web admin under keyboard layout.

Should not cause too many problems, but again, it surprises me, that it was not done originally.

Issues 1) and 2) are really just minors. If it stays like this when we come closer to beta I would only expect a small note with the installation instructions.

I'll check lspci and lshw when I'm back home tonight and will also try to change to nvidia driver.

For me the same for issue 3 was happening.

nvidia driver might have been installed, but didn't worked out of the box.

workaround installing nvidia from kde before using installer, worked for me.

Hi chriss,

I have to agree with murcel about the nvidia driver.

On 810 alpha I have always done the apt-get update and apt-get dist-upgrade on the KDE desktop.

The 180 Nvidia driver gets downloaded and then by selecting the hardware icon on the task bar you scroll to the recommended 180 update and activate.

You reboot the system and then install LMCE.

I've had absolutely no xorg.conf adjustments to do.  The RGB line is commented out, nvidia is the driver and my modelines are set for 1080p display.

On 710 I always had to set EDID to true and play around with font sizes on the KDE destop.

On 810 everything is displaying perfectly.
