Looks very promising
« on: May 06, 2009, 04:22:46 pm »
SmartDevices a chinese company is going to be releasing a 7" internet tablet for about $132 USD (maybe a little more after importing)
Here is the link on their page:
http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http://www.smartdevices.com.cn/&sl=zh-CN&tl=en&hl=en&ie=UTF-8

It already has unbuntu on it so it should be fairly easy to put orbiter on it.  Hopefully this turns out good.

It looks interesting...but the info is a little difficult to read/understand. When will it ship? Any idea?

Here it is again, it is only 4.3" and probably will never be seen in the states.

The 4.3 inch version is the SmartQ 5, the newer 7" version is the SmartQ 7.

I doubt it'll be the same price as the one mentioned above...

Just wanted to let people know these are now showing up on ebay for  about $250-$270 shipped.  I know the price might be a little steep, but these things look so stylish!  ;D

If the people that are selling these weren't power sellers I would totally agree with you, but the auctions I see are from sellers with very good ratings.  The only problem with buying from china on ebay is that sometimes customs takes a little long (sometimes a week or 2) before it actually gets to you.  I have personally purchased dozens of items from sellers in china without any issues.  I would not of even brought it up if it looked fishy.

Nigle,

I think it just makes sense to be careful when buying from a place that is not reachable in terms of liability issues etc. Whether it is China, or, from a European point of view, the U.S.
