Help using tutorial "DVD Install And Custom Partitions"
« on: April 19, 2009, 04:38:16 pm »
Hallo,

I'am installing LMCE 7.10 RC2 on my new core; 1TB hdd. I am following the "DVD Install And Custom Partitions" guide. To problems:

1. Step by step using fdisk to make the partitions from Ubuntu. The Alt + F2 dident work for me. I ended up partioning via an install off ubuntu:

sda1 = 60GB   /
sda5 =  2GB   Linux Swap
sda6 = 10GB   /mnt/recovery
sda7 = 0.9xTB rest

2. The notion:
Quote
"We need fool the LinuxMCE Installer into believing we already have a LinuxMCE installation. To do so we have to create a single file. If you are using the LMCE DVD, it has created the /media/target directory to use below"
What do I need to do, in order to "fool" the LinuxMCE Installer. I need a step by step instructions here as well. :P

Yes I am a newbie at linux, and I am most struggeling with the terminal, partitions, where do my file and folders end up/or how to separate my privat files, from the linux system files. And it all sums up in how do the file system actually work in linux, as suppose to windows.... struggeling here again  :D

Well much to learn :P, if anyone have some god tutorial on these matters, dont heasitate to donate som links ;)

Why don't you try using the DVD as is, since this is your first time through?

Sorry, not first time trying LMCE, but first time to build a usefull system, that I intend to transfer all of my media files too :).

And in light of this, I dont want to give LMCE the hole 1TB, in case of OS falilure etc...

What is this file:

To do so we have to create a single file
Those it mean the /pluto.conf?

Come on man, THINK! *bop-you-on-head*

Put the OS on a separate disk.

In fact, if you follow our network diagram, and put the disk in a NAS....There is an additional layer of insulation there.
