Cover Art
« on: March 31, 2009, 02:22:08 pm »
Does anyone know how I can get cover art for my huge library of .mp3's and .avi files. I know I can do it in webadmin but, this is tons of labour. Is there a way I can use some 3rd party stuff to get the same result. This is not working out so good and I also had some reason I had a 1000 songs in a folder named M1 + Top 1000 but now every song in that was in that directory now has that for the album. I also need to rename them all now they have a number in front of everyone. example 0702. 4 Non Blondes - What's Up.mp3. Even if someone knows what I should be doing in webadmin like what attributes I should be selecting.
For .avi files should I make a folder for each .avi file I have or should I just have the avi file in the videos directory. Also for mp3's should I use windows or something to get metadata, there has got to be an easier way to do this.

If you have a windows box that you can connect to your LMCE box there are free mp3 edit programs that are much easier. LMCE will then pick up the metadata after the edit.

I tried various programs to mass identify mp3's with sketchy success.  If the mp3's were ripped directly from the retail CD it should have the id3 data already and LMCE will simply download appropriate art/info for it.  If that is not happening, I've found the best way to do it is to sort your music into folders then use the webadmin to assign attributes.  LMCE doesn't utilize folders as a system of sorting, they're only to make it easier for you to identify songs from the same artist/album.

With avi files, bite the bullet, head into webadmin and wear out the search amazon button.  Believe me, it's the best way.

Thanks. I renamed all my avi's to just movie title no dates or such. It seems to be working but, I also patched MCE to use IMDB instead of just amazon. As for the mp3's I need to find a program that will remove all the numbered prefixes ex. 001.Metallica-Ride.The.Lightning.mp3 I have 1000 of those.any takers of how I can remove the #'s.

Use mp3tag. Its pretty good, and very easy to use to make bulk changes to a particular attribute - eg for all songs on an album, you can go through and set the Album name, performer and year attributes. It also has rules which you can use to set attributes based on the file name by pattern matching and string slicing. It also allows you to change file names based on similar rules. A bit messy at first, but when you get used to it, its pretty good.

My favourite application for music tagging is MediaMonkey (windows), best online info/art grabber and re-namer I have used.

I am using lmce media browser. But I only had to tag around 26000 MP3s and flacs with artist, genre, and title. So it might not be as suitable for larger libs.
