I agree with you, Andrew. But I couldn't find anything better then it. To avoid situation when drive management scripts will work together with fstab mounting I choose 'Ignore that drive' option for the desire shares on the Orbiter. So, the scripts just ignore the shares all times

The technique of using a screen session to keep drives mounted is only relevant to drives mounted by the auto-managed by the system...

It's clear . In case of using fstab the shares are available all the time without any hacks But I'd like to use native LinuxMCE mounting functionality to mount shares. That's why I asked you about script

One thing I noticed was that the autofs service is what was mounting and unmounting drives.  You can't/shouldn't modify the auto.master file in /etc because some scripts work in there. 

I made this change in StorageDevices_Setup.sh changed
"AutoMaster_StorageDevices="/mnt/device /etc/auto.PlutoStorageDevices --timeout=30"

to

"AutoMaster_StorageDevices="/mnt/device /etc/auto.PlutoStorageDevices --timeout=0"

Presto!  No more unmount drives...  Of course this could impact dvd/cdrom's etc.

guys, that is a _VERY BAD_ thing to do. You will lose the ability to hot disconnect disks.

For me this problem went away when I upgraded to 0810.

The problem wasn't that autofs was mounting and unmounting the drives.  It was that once an MD was booted up my media drives (SATA in the core) was were unmounted and never re-mounted, then when Updatemedia ran it could only find the same amount of media that was stored on the OS drive.

By using this idea to keeping them from unmounting I could boot up an MD with and still access my media.
