Got a new tv for x-mas- KDL-46WL140  (haven't tried it with LMCE yet) but it doesn't have a RS-232 port.  Instead it uses "Theater Sync" see here: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=919139  or here:  http://www.hometheatermag.com/hookmeup/208hook/

I've looked thru the posts- looks like RS-232 has been the standard I/O, but I'm curious if anyone has any experience with control thru HDMI

Hi,

Is interested in HDMI CEC too.

However there are several problems.
1. How do we communicate with the CEC.
There is a sourceforge project and a guy that started doing some stuff.
Have tried to contact him without success. Neither have he published any source.
2. All manufactuers have their own command set.
Which basically mean that we face the same difficulties as with rs-232.
Any new model/commands need to be implemented.
3. Do manufacturers release command spec for us to use?

Have also read that there exist rs-232<->HDMI CEC units. But I have not been able to find any yet.

If anyone know somethihg about CEC plese tell me.

I agree that it is a promising technology and it seem that more and more TVs have it and at the same time the
number of TVs that have rs-232 seem to decrease.

Here´s a manufacturer of Serial<->CEC ship.
This chip is probably used in several units on the market like recievers, dvd players etc.

Still have not found a commercial product that have a RS-232 and hdmi passthrough.

See this,

Looks like you can hook into the serial(rs-232) transmission between cec devices with this hdmi extender.

Don´t know more about it now.

the page you refer to does not list that functionality... it is only rs232 passthrough.

hari.

You are absolutely right.
This unit do not support cec they way we are discussing here.

Forget about it.
It´s probably to pricy too, $1000.

I got to excited when I saw it and did not read everything on the page. Just the part that said rs-232, hdmi etc.

Sorry.
