MDs don't play media
« on: December 18, 2008, 06:02:11 pm »
Hello,

The MDs in this installation don't play media that is stored on the core. When I hit "Audio", for example, the files list and thumbnails (covers) are shown, but if I pick a song from a CD and select "Play", an error message pops up saying:

File not found:
/home/public/data/audio/<CD title>/<song title>

Remarks:
1- The core/hybrid is working fine (plays audio and video locally).
2- When connected to another core, both MDs (a Toshiba Satellite and an Acer TravelMate) play audio and video nicely.

I've already reinstalled both MDs, rebuilt the images etc. without success.

TIA,

Pipoca

Does /home/public/data/audio/<CD title>/<song title> exist on your MDs?

No, the /audio directory is empty. There are 4 empty directories below /data: audio, documents, pictures and videos. However, I can browse and see the pictures stored in the core when I hit Pictures->Public->Flickr...

Thanks for you reply.

I'm thinking you didn't set things up the way you were supposed to.

By default, if you netboot a media director, all the drive mappings are done for you, automatically, and you can view media on the core or wherever it has been cataloged from.

Since you have such an obvious gap in things, I suspect there's a lot more going on here than you've indicated.

Do you have a core with dual network cards?

Do your media director's network boot?

I followed the instructions and all went very smoothly. The only problem I had was with the Toshiba NIC, which was easily solved according to the "Unrecognized NICs" topic of the wiki.

Exactly what happens when both MDs are connected to an other core.

After reinstalling LMCE on the core, keeping settings and home, the MDs are playing media again. Curiously, during the reinstallation process, I read a message like "Wrong MAC address for device ,<nnn>", where <nnn> is the number of a MD.

Thank you all who tried to help.
