Multiroom Audio
« on: December 15, 2008, 04:58:23 pm »
Hi *,
I'm trying to use a multizone amplifier in order to deliver audio from my core to several rooms it has 6 inputs and six audio zones. It has an RS232 interface with trivial commands (e.g. '(2sl3)' will play input 3 in zone 2). The communication part is dealt-with.
I looked through the ESS Expandable Speaker Selector and the Marantz templates, to no avail.

I've spent several days trying figure out how this should be done but I'm out of Ideas.

Could anyone help?

Thanks in advance,

George.

Did you ever get a response to this? I am also looking to implement something similar, I have all my speaker cables coming to a media closet and would like to have the ability to send audio to any room (either for the tv in that room, music, intercom)...
If you got this going, I would be curious to hear how it turned out. Also, what is the make of the multi-room amplifier you got/

The OP was trying to use a Marantz amp of some description...which model is unknown. However if you have the rs232 commands to access zones 2-n in your amp then essentially its just a matter of replicating what you would do manually to select a source and route it to one of those secondary zones. There may be in addition setup steps you need to take manually in the amp to map the inputs or speaker config for secondary zones... these will be amp specific of course.

All the best

Hi,

my setup is similar to what OP is after... I have Marantz SR5600 (additional audio zone on last stereo output) with multiroom template described here :
http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Marantz_SR5600

and second audio zone connected to rs232 controlled speaker selector box described here :

http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/ESS_Expandable_Speaker_Selector_Switch  (sadly, I think this product is not supported anymore - does anyone knows anything similar) ?

Remember, I wrote content of those pages with working setup on 7.10 version, that is currently running in my house...

HTH,

regards,

Bulek.
Thanks in advance,
