Dreambox DM800 HD and LinuxMCE
« on: December 08, 2008, 03:16:09 pm »
Hi all,

So heres what I want to do.

1) I live in Spain but would like all the UK/US satellite channels on my TV here.
2) I have a Dreambox DM800 HD decoder box running at the moment in the living room but would like to share its output. Its input is from my satellite dish in the garden.

Im calling on the Dreamboxers out there :)

I like the Dreambox DM800, it is a very nice little box and would act well as a flat client PC or set top box. But I was wondering, can this be used as a flat client? Can you copy the LinuxMCE image to a internal hard drive inside the Dreambox and boot from it, I am guessing you can but does anyone have any experience of this?

My experience with the Dreambox is not much, I know how to set it up, flash new images etc but not usre about the USB perifruls I can plug into it, will the Fiire remote control work with it etc...

I am a newbie to the LinuxMCE and have only dabbled into Linux a little bit but im loving it, its like a really hard crossword puzzle, you know what you wanna do and dont know the answer but your damd if youll give up on it.

So, in short, does anyone have any experience with the DreamBox DM800 HD?
Have you installed LinuxMCE onto the hard drive and used it as a remote/client/set top pc?
Have you successfully streamed media from the main LinuxMCE server to the Dreambox?
Does the Fiire remote work ok with it, can you control everything you want with the remote? (Im guessing this is not a problem as the Fiire remote (I believe) plugs into the Main LinuxMCE server and is wireless, so will work in any room within 50ft).
Does anyone have any experience of using the Dreambox's for this kind of install and do you think it will be easily expandable for more Dreambox's?

OK, thats my string of questions, yes I have googled but not found anything useful.

Many thanks everyone, love to know what your experiences are on this subject,

Wozie

For anyone thats wondering, this is the Dreambox DM800 HD PVR, its a very nice little unit: http://www.dream-multimedia-tv.de/english/products_dm800.php

hmmm, as first question - you think a 300 MHz processor could manage all LMCE tasks (or only basic ones)?  :(

i have 3 DB's in my house, but use them separately from LMCE - ok, in the next future, i will try to control them thru lmce, not much more...

Hi, thanks for your reply,

Well I will only be streaming the media to the box, the main media PC will be a lot more powerful.

I have heard you can stream to the Dbox2 from Linux MCE, so from this I guess in time the Dreambox will be next?

See the following links for streaming to the Dbox2:
