Open the ssh port and you can use sftp.

One more quick question....
Is there a way to manage my files from outside my home?
For example, I have some media files that I want to upload.. maybe some pics or movie... or maybe I want to download some some of my mp3's from my core, is it possible to log in to some kind of file manager?
I was wondering if there is something already built in to LMCE for this.

Hi. No, not without some 3rd party software...

You can reach the pluto-admin and mythweb web pages from the outside though...

you can open port 22 and use ssh/scp/sftp for file operations.

So I went to the admin page>security>Outside access and checked port 22 for remote assistance. Now what do I need to do to log in with a FTP browser?

I am finally able to establish connection using ssh but my I cannot seem to get my user name and password to work. What should the user name and password be by default? Should it be the same as my admin page login?

I have to be missing something... and/or I am retarded.
I have tried filezilla and gftp, I get as far as connecting and submitting the user and password info but then I get kicked out with an incorrect password.

Here are the steps I took,
I went to the admin page under Wizard/Security/Outside Access and checked "use port 22 for remote assistance"

Then I went to Advanced/Network/Firewall Rules and opened up port 22 just to make sure.

I have tried using sftp and ssh and I get just as far on both.
I put in the ip, set to port 22 put in my admin page user name and password. Makes connection with the server and then I get the following message....
Code: [Select]
Error: Authentication failed.
Error: Critical error
Error: Could not connect to server

What am I missing?

ssh does not use LMCE's account system, it only does system accounts.. what the hell are you trying to do? you're trying to do several different things!

I am trying to gain access to my home folder remotely so that I can upload media to my core from an off site location... That way I can add my media from work instead of actually working.

I figured I could make it work as a FTP server... I have never set one up before so I really have no clue as to what I am doing.

Should I just give up?

No it should be the username and password you created during the install, and for the dvd-install the username is linuxmce by default.
