Fujitsu C-500 tablet as orbiter?
« on: November 21, 2008, 04:59:12 pm »
Does anybody know if these would work as an orbiter?  They have a USB port so I was thinking of putting a USB wireless adapter into it.  They seem to run Windows 2000 so I was thinking they might be a cheap orbiter solution.

Sure, absolutely. and if you want a dedicated orbiter solution, my PadOrbiter linux distribution can be ported to it as well.

I don't see requirements for the padOrbiter software, you should post them :)  These tablets only have 128MB of RAM typically ( I know linux can do more with less ).

it's a micro-debian. It's designed to run on a pad with 256 megs of RAM, and 512 megs of flash..however, this is with 128 megs of ram left typically after orbiter loads... sooo it should fit okay in that tablet... Of course, you can add ram.

It will have to be adapted for your wireless card and display driver...but it is possible.

Hello,

I use one of these and want to mention that the touchscreen is a bit particular. It will not repond to a touch with a finger. You need to either use the stylus, or use your fingernails.

Something to keep in in mind as you may not like it.

(And if someone knows a tablet of a similar size in the same pricerange that responds to finger touches please let me know!)

Jeangot, talk to tkmedia about a WebDT 366. $250 until the end of the year, preconfigured with my PadOrbiter. Send him a private message.

Thom,

thanks, but that's about double what I can get a C-500 for on Ebay though. For that price I'm happy to continue using my nails :-)
I should try to see if I can install your PadOrbiter on them though...
