Newbie q: does linux mce can work as a file/print server?
« on: November 06, 2008, 01:10:54 am »
Hi guys,

I am a total newbie and I am currently considering building a core.

As I want a minimal number of computers turned on 24/7 I would like to know if MCE can double as a file/print server.

I would like to achieve the following:
+ have my own space on the RAID system to store my files (different fro media) and be able to access them from any computer (e.g the raid system would appear as a drive while at home)
+ be able to access my files while on the road.
+ connect my printer to the core and be able to print wireless from my laptop.

I would also like to know how complicated it is as I am really a newbie. A couple of months ago someone introduced me to Ubuntu and I'm loving it but the learning curve has been steep.

Thanks so much.

By default lmce exposes public samba shares.
You can add printing through the kde interface on the core.
so yes it can act as a file and print server.
