Hi all,

I'm interested in buying a phone like that. Could someone tell me, or point me to another link of the forum, if it's strictly necessary to buy it with or without the license station?
It's better to use it with SCCP or SIP firmware?

Best regards,

Luke

P.S. : if it's not necessary could be possible to find it via ebay searching  ;)

It is not required, but you should get a phone with a firmware license.

The Cisco 7970 uses the SCCP firmware.

Hi Thom,

thanks for your reply. But I don't understand exactly what you intend for firmware license. Did you intend the possibility for downloading a new firmware from Cisco site or something else?

Best regards,

Luke

the intent is that cisco has copyright on their work and wants you to pay to use their firmware for the phone. There are different flavors, like SIP and SCCP.

Hi Hari,

thanks for your reply. I would intend that the license is not necessary for LinuxMCE functionality but only for the possibility of upgrade or downgrade the firmwareon it. Than if I have the possibility to receive the firmware from Cisco isn't necessary. That's right or not?

Luke

I don't understand your question. When you own a valid license you can download any firmware from the cisco page..

felpouse, stop being a cheap skate. You have to pay for a copy whatever firmware you have or are going to put on the phone.. this is a single time charge per phone.
