It may be easier to just use the UPnP server that LinuxMCE and MythTV set up for you. The naming and sorting are human friendly already, and don't require you to copy all your TV shows.
In its defense, this simply creates symlinks to you actual recordings, it does not copy them over. And I have noticed with the LMCE UPnP server, that on random occasions (not easily replicated) my media disappears. I am sure this is because unless LMCE needs it, it tends to temporarily remove the media resource.
But at any rate, this simply creates a link to the actual file, it does not copy over the entire bit. SO no worries on disk space issues
