recover mce-install installation
« on: August 26, 2008, 09:30:45 am »
Is it possible to recover the mce-installer script installation?
I started an installation with the script but I had an hardware problem and I had to stop the process (server crash)
Now I solved the problem and I would like to complete the installation but when I execute the script mce-installer nothing happens. What should I do? Reinstall kubuntu?

Marco,
Can you provide some more information about your install
What did you start from? Is the machine already running kubuntu? if so which version?
Are you trying to install from CD?
Do you need to preserve all the data on your HD? if not the DVD installer will wipe the HD and install the correct version of kubuntu and Linuxmce on top.
Have you read http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Installation_Guide and decided the best way forward for your needs?

sure! :-)

I'm installing linuxmce as a xen domU into a Centos 5 32 bit Dom0. I installed the kubuntu 7.10 with debootstrap and then I installed kubuntu-desktop packages set and all packages needed by linuxmce. I log into the virtual machine with remote login xdcmp.

I downloaded the installer and the cds directly into this virtual machine.

I started the installation process, after loading the two cd isos and the kubuntu installation cd iso the installation begins. So the virtual machine crashed. I believe I was using an old xen version (3.03) into and old fedora 6 installation. Now I upgrade to centos 5 and xen 3.2 so I believe I won't have other crash!

The problem is that after this crash I can boot the virtual machine but if I execute the installer againg nothing happens. I believe the installer has changed many things of the kubuntu.

Moreover, I don't want to waste time so I prefer reinstalling the operating system... I'll re execute the mce installe and I'll see!

If you are going to be testing in a virtual machine and are able to blow it away and restart from scratch then booting your domU from the DVD iso installs OS and LMCE, I have no idea how this interacts or whether it will work as you expect under xen.
