How to copy movies off the system via MD interface
« on: July 03, 2008, 06:36:53 am »
Hello,

I am going on a trip for the weekend. I want to walk to an MD, plug in a USB flash drive, have it recognized by the system (so far so good). Now I want to copy a few movies to the flash drive for me to watch on my trip using the MDs interface (orbiter). How can this be done? I see a feature to "move" a file, after clicking on a video file, but not to copy.

Anyone knows if this is possible? If not, would it be worth requesting it as a feature?

(I can of course do this via the KDE Desktop or even SSH, but this is not the point)

Thanks.

Jean

Currently that feature isn't supported (BTW, the "move" function is new, and doesn't appear to work)

However, I did log a feature request back in February that would cover exactly that. It was intended more for mp3s and syncing (rather than merely copying) between an MD and mp3 players - but it would work just as well for any media file.

Check out the description - http://mantis.linuxmce.org/view.php?id=3895

Don't think any progress has been made on this yet, but it would be a great addition. Suggest you log into Mantis and register your interest as well .... the more people that express interest, the more likely it will get looked into :)

Forgive me for asking, but your answer made me curious.  Why would this not be possible?  Would it confuse lmce having two copies of the same media in separate locations?  If the ability to move has been added (which may or may not work yet), why not copy?
