WinTV-PVR-USB2 wont find all channels

I just set up a hybrid linuxmce system On an ASUS vintage using linuxmce 7.10 released.  Everything seems to work fine except that my WinTV-PVR-USB2 will only detect channels the channels that are available over the air (channels 1-15), and not the cable specific channels.   The quality is also inferior.

I noticed that I can tune in to the undetected channels (HGTV 40)  using ivtv-tune.  I can also record perfect quality video by doing "d if=/dev/video0 of=temp.mpg".  It seems to me that there is something screwy about the channel detection and tuning by Mythtv. 

Did I mess up the install?  (This is my first experience with linuxmce.)   Is it possible that mythtv is not looking for cable channels?  I did not see a setting that would control that.  I appreciate any help.
