Linuxmce/Pluto licence question - selling equipment
« on: April 18, 2008, 06:09:19 pm »
I know obviously selling equipment indended to run Linuxmce is subject to Pluto Licencing. Is a Pluto licence required to sell ordinary peripheral equipment, such as Z-Wave kit, as LinuxMCE compatable?
Thanks,
Mark
Z-Wave,  Peripherals, Licenced Media Directors and Cores now available with European-wide Delivery at www.hightechpad.com.

Well as long as you are only selling the peripherals and not bundling those with any LinuxMCE software or pre-installing LinuxMCE on hardware to sell the peripherals then I cannot see that you are in anyway infringing Pluto's license at all. But as already suggested it would be a sensible idea to pass this past Pluto first to be absolutely sure they are happy.

Hope this helps.

I sent email inquiry about Pluto licences over week ago and still no answer :(
Guys in IRC are saying that Pluto as a company is dead, is that right?

How to obtain Pluto licence? Is the LinuxMCE now in public domain? Is it legal to sell LinuxMCE + hardware without licence now?

Andrew are you a reseller of Pluto licences?
LinuxMCE - If it was easy, everybody would be doing it!!

Hi Valent,

Pluto no longer exists and licenses are no longer available. LinuxMCE is not in the 'Public domain' whatever that may mean. Parts of LinuxMCE are GPL and other parts are PPL (Pluto Public License). It is the PPL parts that restrict you from selling LinuxMCE systems commercially.

CHT supplies both Cascade & Dianemo based hardware systems to our approved resellers/installers and in some regions we have appointed distributors. If you PM me here I will provide you with details of our commercial reseller/installer and distribution agreements etc.

All the best

Andrew
