Been trying to install this for about 24 hours straight now
First I tried with fresh install of Kubuntu and the 2 CD's

Same error time after time, mysql server can't be installed

So I gave up on the CD's and went for the DVD instead, downloaded and burned it
Tried to boot from it and get the following message after a few seconds

Loading...isolinux: Disk Error 80: ax = 4280, drive 9F

Help please, I want this to work :)

Hmmm... these type of problems are usually down to a faulty optical drive or an error on the burnt DVD. Try burning another copy but set your burning software to write at 4x or possible 2x and then see if that fixes the problem. If not it might well be your drive... try installing a relacement.

Did burn another copy but with same bad result so I went off to the store and got myself a shiny new drive

Now install starts off just fine, but seems to stop with a black screen and kinda die

Ben Pool

actually it's the input/output error now

/cdrom/lmce-image/linux-mce.tar.gz_00: Input/Output error

I think I've had it with this for now after two days of trying to install... :(

Ben,

Do you have another optical drive that you can try instead of the one you are currently using?

Have you enough space on the hd you are installing to?

With the initial install using CDs where mysql server install failed - was there a specific error? or just the LMCE dialog box reporting mysql couldn't be installed?

I figured the disk error 80 was drive related so I bought a new drive and then I got the input/output error instead.

Installing (well, trying atleast) on a brand new 400GB, so space isn't the issue

Just the dialog box reporting that it couldn't install

Did you check the MD5Sum on the ISOs before burning them?

I don't know if you have this sorted or not - I came across the mysql failing to install on an update I did, checking the logs it reported the mysql version was at the newest version - maybe you have the same condition causing this error to display.
