"Core" hardware requirements?
« on: November 19, 2005, 05:39:55 pm »
Firstly my congratuations on producing an open source piece of software that looks so functional, I cant wait to give it a try!

But before I do, how powerfull would you suggest that a "core" running say 2 TV boxes (i forget what your name is for them) and 2 sqeeze boxes with possibly some bluetooth roaming and VOIP thrown in?

TV cards would potentially be installed on both the server and TV boxes, which would be based on low end silent hardware.

Thnx

we have some specs here for the core, but of course you can build your own.
the media director specs are here http://plutohome.com/index.php?section=media_director

"Core" hardware requirements?

Thanks for gettin back to me.

I was hoping for abit of guidance on the kind of processing muscle that would be needed, and volume of RAM - for the core that is. For the purposes of serving 2 media directors would an old 1.47ghz Athlong be suitable? Coupled with tons of RAM and a fast HD access? The core would only be require to record one stream of video at a time.

Are the 1.3ghz Via processors suitable for media directors? Assuming a sufficient amount of RAM.

I'm interested in trying out something as fully featured as Pluto but as it would really be a test I dont really want to invest in a high end server.

Cheers

ok, then let me tell you my config right now for 2 systems:
core and hybrid - 2.4Ghz P4 with 1GB ram - i have some barebones from msi
fast hdd - i think it's a 7.200 not a 10.000
as for media directors - again barebones, and some P4 from 1.8 to 2.4Ghz with 512 and 1GB ram

i think your config will be ok, of course you don't need to invest in a high end server, just get the best config as a core/hybrid with a god hdd, and the rest as media directors
