Beta 4
« on: March 02, 2008, 09:38:29 pm »
Ok, now beta 4 is 3-4 days late, but nobody has posted a single update!

Why always the intense secrecy?

Can somebody please publicly post an updated ETA?

We don't know yet.. Danielk and Hari are currently trying to get a working ZWave driver into the build before shipping, and as of this morning, it's very close.

I know we are behind, and we're doing the best we can.

I know Thom! But my understanding (from Ender) was that beta4 was being released immediately, and the final release was being held waiting for the ZWave stuff. That's what I don't understand - I got the impression that beta 4 wasn't waiting for anything, but the final was being held for a few things...

It would be really nice if someone involved would start 2 threads, one for beta 4 and one for the release, and just provide regular updates like a running commentary on what is happening, what the roadblocks are, what the next steps are, and then finally an announcement that it had been released. This is more about communications than speeding it up - it would help the rest of us feel more included even though we aren't actually doing anything to help! (and shut us up, too!)

I agree Colin... as usual we are not doing a good job of communicating whats happening. I will see if I can clear this up and post something here in the morning 8-9 hours from now.

Hi andrew.

Like anyone else I am longing for the new version. How is the VDR implemention coming on? We near to having implemention of vdr in beta 4?
Are we gonna have close to fully UI integration of VDR in bate 4? Also how is the media direcotr parts coming on in VDR?

I am longing to use linuxmce as a full home system but vdr integration is a key part. I am very impressed with vdr so far it is far better than mythtv.

Regards

Hi fibres,

Well vdr integration is moving ahead but not as fast as we'd like. We have to balance the public & Dianemo versions and test both and make sure that we have stability... so this is slow work. I am not sure how much in terms of vdr integration will have changed in Beta4.

However there are many other changes in Beta4 so overall I think you will be pleased.

Glad you like what we're doing with vdr!

Andrew

Andrew - will at least the channel up/down buttons be mapped so we don't have to go to the "rose" everytime even just to change by one channel? That is probably the most annoying thing useability-wise...

 Your so right Collin,

If we could have the channel up/ down and volume it would be far more usable.

I tried remapping the remote buttons (+ and - for volume and up / down for channels ) but this has no effect in vdr where while i type on the keyboard it works.

i have remmaped few keys this way in the ui and mythtv and it always works.

Any advice from you people working on vdr integration ?

Regards,

Rafik

Unfortunately, thepiratebay is down at the moment so we can't access the torrents... can the torrent be put on another tracker as well?

Will there be any difference in the Dianemo version and the LinuxMCE version? If so what will those differences be?
