Ripping CDs and Cover Art??
« on: February 23, 2008, 11:59:53 pm »
Am I being really stupid and missing something? I am ripping CDs - that works fine, identifies the CD, tracks, album and other attributes and assigns them to the tracks (mp3s) correctly. But it doesn't seem to assign any cover art. Isn't it supposed to do that too?

I know that you can assign cover art (and search for it) using the cover art menu in the admin site, but this is extremely slow and laborious!

Try ripping to your core drive.  For DVDs that works about 80% of the time.  Ripping to other drives results in no meta data.  I filed a mantis ticket on this and it was closed with a note that it is already fixed and will be in the next release.  Oops, I assuming you are using 0710 beta 3.

Its really strange - I am ripping to a remote share, as you say, and that seems to work most of the time for attributes (except as I mentioned to you in another thread a few mins ago).

But when I display the media in the media grid, esp whilst the CD is still in the drive, I see a mixed up set of duplicated tracks. Of course I expect the tracks to be duplicated because the CD is still in the drive. BUT the folder that represents the actual CD has the correct coverart usually. The folder that represents the ripped album does not - so the system knew the correct coverart but didn't apply it to the rip. Within that "album" folder I see duplicate tracks from the share and the CD, and a seemingly random selection of tracks on BOTH have the correct coverart. Sometimes none of the tracks for the ripped version, and other times about 50% of each. Sometimes the same track on CD and mp3 have cover art, sometimes neither, sometimes one and not the other!

I also logged tickets on this yesterday (about 8 actually!) - yes I am using beta3...

There seem to be alsorts of screwing things going on inside the database - lots of instances of MANY copies of the same attribute with the same data being applied to one track or album. Coverart from one popping up somewhere else, etc! I have tried to describe it all in the tickets, but it is very difficult! All seems to start happening when I start ripping - but it is impossible for me to tell at this point if it is the rip script or updatemedia...
