attempting to get the Fiire Stations working uner 0710
« on: February 17, 2008, 09:57:07 am »
ok, this is Day #2, on 0710.
I have 2 Fiire Stations, both still down, but not out by a long shot.

Once we get the Fiire Station working, I'll wiki it.

Danielk, TSCHAK, and myself are working together on this, we SHOULD be able to get SOMETHING working..

Will keep in touch.

All the best,

Dan
The only intuitive interface is the nipple.  After that it's all learned.
My other computer is your windows box.
I'm out of my mind.  Back in 5 minutes.
Q:  What's Red and smells like blue paint?

A:  Red Paint.

We have a Via DS700 here which is 100% identical to the VESA mount 1" FiireStation and we have not been able to get this unit working yet. It will add ok... but its the video drivers that causing problems (as usual!). Are you trying to get the original Fiire drivers working or trying to build new Unichrome or Openchrome drivers under the 0710 Kernel?

Hi Andrew, I thought you might chime in here!

I'm trying to build new Unichrome and/or Openchrome drivers..
I've got both downloaded..

FYI, I have 2 stations, a 1" and a 2.2".

atm, neither is functioning.

What we (tschak and I) have so far done is:
1.  manually add the template for the MD so it doesn't get sensed as a fiire product..
2.  downloaded build-essential, svn, etc etc, so our platform is ready.
3.  attemped apt-get install xvideo-xorg-openchrome, (of course, this failed)
4.  downloaded, ./autogen, make, make install of the openchrome source, all OK (still failed)

We're fighting with the infamous "Failed to start X"
in /etc/Xorg.0.log we have:
fatal server error:
no screens found

The only intuitive interface is the nipple.  After that it's all learned.
My other computer is your windows box.

Well one thing you might want to try is the standard Kubuntu 0710 Openchrome driver... I have not tried this under a LinusMCE install but editing xorg.conf so that it uses 'via' (it might be 'openchrome') instead of 'vesa' ie;

Section "Device"
        Identifier      "Via Integrated Graphics Controller"
        Driver          "via"

This definitely works as I have tried this on a standard Kubuntu 0710 desktop install.

Cheers

Thanks Andrew, That's what we've done.

Danielk has now got X started! YAY..
the UI1 starts, and all is well... until we attempt to start xine.
Xine opens fine, but doesn't close..
the 'xine' window is 'stuck', when I start KDE.
I did manage to kill that process, xineplayer..
still working at it, ;)

All the best,

Dan

Well I am not sure that is a very productive direction... we need the whole UI to work under 0710 & UI2 and that means you need to get X working...

yes, I know,
we haven't got that far yet.. ;(
Fiire have told me they will have images for when 0710 comes out...
that's all they've said.  I don't know if they will supply UI1 or UI2.
It's unfortunate they won't release their UI1.. at least that would give us a starting ground to work with.

I just fired off an email to Jeff from Fiire, we'll see what he has to offer.

I would not have very high expectations I'm afraid :-(
