Ok, I have tested beta3 pretty well on a temporary setup. The rest of my parts come in tomorrow, and I would like to start upgrading my network for use with LinuxMCE. I could use a little help in this area.
Here is what I currently have:
+ SpeedStream 4200 DSL Modem
+Belkin WirelssG router (with 4 lan ports)
- Computer 1 (wired)
- NFusion Nova satellite box (wired)
- Xbox360 1 (wired)
- Xbox360 2 (wired)
- Computer 2 (wireless)
- Computer 3 (wireless)
- Nintendo Wii (WIreless)
- PSP (wireless)
- Laptop (wireless)
I have already run Cat5e cable everywhere in the house I need it (some computers are wireless right now, as i only had 4 ports on the belkin router)
I also have just picked up 2x 8-port gigabit switches
So as of now I have:
-Cat5e cable run
-DLink 8 port gigabit switch
-Hawking Technologies 8 port gigabit switch
-Belkin wirelessG router
-Speedstream 4200 DSL Modem
-LMCE Core (2 ethernet cards for internal and external network)
From what I'm gathering, I can put my belkin wireless G into "Access Point" mode, hook it to the gigabit switch and have LMCE core assign 192.168.80.xxx IP addresses to wireless connections.
So what I am thinking, my setwork should be set up like this:
+Speedstream 4200 DSL Modem
+LinuxMCE (speedstream 4200 connected to external NIC, Gigabit connected to internal NIC)
+Gigabit Switch
-Media Director 1
-Media Director 2
-Media Director 3
-XBOX 360 1
-XBOX 360 2
-NFusion Nova satellite receiver
+Belkin wirelessG (in Access Point mode)
-802.11g orbiter
-Nintendo Wii
-PSP
-...etc wireless connections
+Second gigabit switch to give me more ports
-Future wired device
-...etc...
Does this seem to be the way I should be setting up my network???
thanks,
Jon
