Has anyone tried the newer CN896 chipset graphics?  When the mobo I'm looking at is back in stock I plan on trying it out.

We have not tried the new CN896 chipset based motherboards... but I would expect them to suffer the same or greater problems that earlier Via chipsets have suffered from... no drivers that really exploit the full potential of their designs. Via design and manufacture some great hardware but their support for that hardware under Linux is really terrible I'm afraid.

My suggestion... don't waster your money on this mobo ;-)

I was afraid you'd say that..  ;-)  really frustrating as I see great potential with Via...  their mini-itx and nano-itx form factors are so great in my opinion...  and the inexpensive micro-atx mobos out there would make for outstanding low-cost MDs..  where else can you get a mobo with 1.5ghz cpu included and integrated graphics for 60.00 usd..

I 100% agree. But at the moment the only way to use any of the Via motherboards is under UI1... where they work very well with Unichrome Pro drivers.
