VDR in 0710b3 - No key is working (except some function keys)
« on: January 25, 2008, 12:48:16 am »
Hello,

I finally had a chance to add one of my DVB-S cards to my LMCE setup. Channels.conf created, and I am able to watch TV. Good.

But, how do I do things like switching channels? Going into recording mode?

I am currently using UI1 ie. the most basic setup.

I do not use a regular remote control right now, but just a regular keyboard.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

F6 is the media menu for all modules, and so the same for VDR, but is just basic OSD and channel change at the moment. F7 the normal menu for VDR, but not many of the functions work. There is no basic interface to recordings, etc yet as it is very beta!

I did install VDRadmin, and that gives you an extremely nice interface and full menu options, including extensive video and audio preferences - presumably plugging and activating the normal VDR interface that LMCE doesn't connect through to yet.

That being said - my LMCE box is now screwed! It boots up as if it is a dedicated core, with no Orbiter options, even though the Orbiter [20] is still in the admin site. Can't work out how to fix it or what caused it - but this happened overnight and I installed vdradmin late last night, so be ware :) it may be coincidence (probably) but don't blame me if it does the same to yours..

I've switched to UI2 for VDR as its support didn't seem very integrated yet with UI1.  BTW, you can also use extra mouse buttons (if you have them) for F6-F8: http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Use_Additional_Mouse_Buttons

I had tried UI2 before, and found the problem with not being able to use the arrow keys to seleect anything. That's why I went with UI1, because it had better usability IMHO. I will need to reinstall the n800 mobile orbiter to see if that is usable.

Thanks

Hi all

Well in answer to your ponder thee colinjones I think I can safely say that installing vdradmin via the aptitude method at least as desacribed in another post by totally maxed is a sure fire way to mess up your linuxmce box.
I have just had to reinstall my system due to a md dying cos of wife pullingplug which seems to have killed it so thought I would give vdr a blast and try the vdradmin. I had the system running and installed vdradmin ok. I then rebooted the machine and now it launches x an the LMCE Launch manager
I get connecting to router art 127.0.0.1, Connect ok in the messages and it just sits there with no option to load orbiter.
As you said it seems to have lost the obiter functionality.

Hmmm... I don't remember posting anything about installing vdradmin using aptitude? Although I have to say that I have done an install using aptitude and it worked as it should... fine.

Sorry andrew my bad.

I asked you in the vdr setup post here http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=3850.30 where vdradmin was being discussed how to install it.
Next time I read it there was a reply to my question. Guess I didnt bother to look at the poster and guesses it was you.
Was wondering if I was going mad or if you were!!!!

It was posde not yourself that suggested installing it via the following command.
"sudo aptitude install vdradmin-am"

After running this command and then rebooting I experience death of my core.
On a side not after reboot I can access the vdradmin page!!!

Was wondeing if it was because I was installin vdradmin-am I notice it is a split off version of the software or something.
Which version are you using and how would you recommend installing it?

Regards

Ah ok.

So what is the expected time scale for the release of the full vdr integration? Also with use on multiple media directors.
I was under the impression from discussions with yourself some while ago that you had this working on your system and using 6 tuners and anyone in the system being able to watch any channel?

I hope I dont sound as if im hassling. I am very impressed with the work you have done so far and am just eager to get linuxmce working in a full capacity which I cannot achieve till I have a workable tv setup which I dont seem to have with myth and vdr seems like it will provide.

Hmmm... well i have been a little over optimistic in the past so i don't think I'd better say anything to specific on the 'When' question. But it will be as soon as possible.

We do have several 6 tuner systems on test and also in daily use. My home system has 3 tuners and we watch live/recorded TV with almost no limitations.

Andrew - is it currently possible to record and play back inside VDR in it's current state on B3?

Best Regards,
Richard.
