I recently ran across Popcorn Hour A-100, it seems like a possible/perfect MD, i cant find any hardware specs on it, but its feature list is quite impressive :

This is a standalone media player, the specifications given aren't relevant cos if you were even able to network boot it as a standard x86 PC that an MD needs to be to run the Linux OS, it would eliminate any of these software/firmware features anyway.

It is standalone, you could get it also to play some of the media off your home network, including the LMCE system, but it itself would have nothing to do with LMCE .... except perhaps you could use LMCE to control it with an IR blaster, but even that doesn't seem to have a point as it would need to be in the same room as core
