Problem with PVRUSB2...Solved
« on: November 09, 2007, 05:15:48 pm »
I am getting the following messages when trying to install my PVRUSB2 on my diskless MD:

pvrusb2: ***WARNING*** Device fx2 controller firmware seems to be missing
pvrusb2: Did you install the pvrusb2 firmware files in their proper location:
pvrusb2: request_firmware unable to locate fx2 controller file v4l-pvrusb2-29xxx-01.fw
pvrusb2:  Failure uploading firmware1
pvrusb2: Device initialization was not successful.
pvrusb2: Giving up since device microcontroller firmware appears to be missing.

The firmware file exists on the core machine in /lib/firmware/2.6.20-15-generic but not on the MD.  Does anyone know how to get the files from the core onto the MD?

Thanks for any help.

For fuck's sake, I just answered this.  >:(

EDIT:

I'm sorry for being my usual rude self, but it's very frustrating when people start crossposting the same question in different places.  I read just about every new post on this entire forum and try to answer as many as I can, having to read the exact same question twice is a waste of my (and others') time.

In case you haven't noticed you're not the only one having some issues, not to mention that this problem is addressed in the wiki already as rwilson131 pointed out in the other thread you started.  So please help us help you and look around a bit before you ask as we're all volunteers here (or feel free to go to fiire.com and pay $60/hour for support).

I have already done every search I can think of and have tried the recommended solution, but to no avail.  Your frustration is acknowledged, but I am a bit frustrated myself.

I already tried that.  At the login prompt, it won't take an empty password.  It gives me login failed 3 times and bails.

That is very strange.

Have you tried ssh moon<MD#> from the core?

I two different MD's and either one takes a password.

The firmware issue was to resolved with the latest update, so this should no longer be a problem after you update. (Have you completed the update.  LinuxMCE704 has one update to install after installation with the DVD or CD's)

Does the MD boot up all of the way to an Orbiter, and if so can you play any additional media files.  Are you having any other problems with this MD.  Do you have any other MD's that are available to try and add the PVR-USB2 under.
Thanks
Rob

The USB-PVR2 problem turned out to be an embedded card reader on the usb bus that was for some reason blocking the kernel from mounting the PVR.  The login issue I'm still not clear about, but was able to get in on ssh.  Thanks for the help, and honestly, I do search the forum exhaustively before posting questions.

Glad to see you've got it fixed.  And don't worry to much about my silly rant, I can get a little grumpy when it's late and I'm tired.
