Desktop Interface Problems
« on: September 28, 2007, 08:14:06 am »
Hey!

I recently installed Linux MCE. The media center interface looks alright but when I go to the KDE desktop pushing the kde button, do load into the interface but the font of the entire desktop is so tiny I can not read it.

it is weird cause when I use the magnifying glass it zooms the desktop in and I still can not read font.

I am using an integrated vid/motherboard system with more than likely a chipset from intel... but i could be wrong it could be some ati...

Anyways... any suggestions?

That is a know configuration problem, see Display_Drivers in the wiki on how to fix it.

So I changed /etc/X11/xorg.conf and added the line

DisplaySize 800 645

and it will not put up into X windows...

Am I missing something here?

We see the same problem here on Intel i950 graphics chip based motherboards... and the fix does not work for us either :-(

I think that setting is so that the DPI (dots per inch iirc) value is calculated correctly.  Which affects the font sizes.  Maybe you guys have a different problem, I'm not using Intel but I had exactly the same symptoms with ATI.

Check the /var/log/Xorg.0.log logfile, I just searched for DPI and found this:
Code: [Select]
(WW) fglrx(0): Probed monitor is 2550x2550 mm, using Displaysize 155x95 mm
(**) fglrx(0): DPI set to (104, 128)
(--) fglrx(0): Virtual size is 640x480 (pitch 640)

If you guys have sane values there then I guess it is not the same thing.
