USB UIRT mounting tips
« on: September 17, 2007, 07:29:59 am »
I'm wondering where would the best place to be to mount a USB UIRT, I have the following setup:

Westinghouse SK-26H240S LCD TV (which I have made a device template for, who do I send this to?)
Motorola DCT-6200 cable box (again, who do I send this to?)

and I am controlling both of them, with a USB UIRT reciever... and I am wondering where is the best place to place the equipment/ir blaster so that I can:

(a) blast appropriately to the above mentioned devices and
(b) still be able to use my Windows MCE remote when I wish (alongside my Fiire Chief and Orbiters)

I have attached a picture below...

What can I do? Any ideas?

I would position the USBUIRT slightly in front of the monitor. Its IR should work the monitor fine. You can get an external IR "blaster" that you can attach to the Motorola. You can supposedly control the Motorola with firewire but that may be more trouble than its worth.

I use the control options interchangeably with no problem.

The setup is supposed to be uploaded automatically but I don't know if thats working yet.

I looked, there is no place to attach the blaster to the UIRT. I have an extra IR blaster that has a teeny little headphone plug, but there is no connector for it.

and yes, I know about sql2cvs, that's why I was asking if there was another method in place until we knew that worked?

And yes, I _was_ controlling the motorola via firewire and a little program. and it works, HOWEVER, I wanted to be able to do this from DCE, not mythtv itself, because I _would_ like the _guide_ and _livetv_ portions to work correctly as well.

Add it to the wiki.

The USBUIRT used to have a minijack on the back for an external blaster. Has it been made redundant?

There is a hole, but it has no jack in it, it's just an empty hole (I see no contacts etc), on either of the two UIRT's I purchased.

I just looked at mine. It has a jack in it with a very thin black barrel making it almost invisible. Check yours and check their web site. Its illustrated here http://www.usbuirt.com/overview.htm and send an annoyed note if they have deleted it.

I'm also interested in to know what is the best way to put IR Transmitter to do not break view of home theater.  Does somebody have picture with example of such installation?

Thanks in advance.

I just got mine today! Im actually using the TIVO ir emitter in conjunction with the usb-uirt. It is a single ir blaster  that splits into two so it can control the tv and receiver.
