Power usage of the core
« on: June 08, 2007, 10:37:48 pm »
Does any of you know how much electricity a typical core uses during heavy, normal and idle usage?

What experience do you have with saving power on the core (standby or shutting down during nighttime or such).

98% depends on your hardware (cpu, mainboard). today, the hardware is built to consume not so much energy.

Yes, it's dependent on the hardware and on usage.

I'm looking for a lower bound on electricity usage.
Has anyone measured their core's idle power usage or any?

I am interested in this as well. I understand that the core is meant to be up at all times, however I am going to use it mainly as a media centre for now. No need to keep it running at full blast while I am sleeping :).  Based on my experience with various distros, I know that power management can be a little tricky...
