New hardware question
« on: March 28, 2016, 07:59:01 pm »
Hey, I'm looking at linuxMCE to develop a home security system, with cameras, to start out with and expand from there.  What would you recommend I use for my core?  I've got a Dell optiplex 790 with 8gb of RAM but it has onboard Intel HD for video.  Not sure if this will work as I've tried it and I get video issues after the initial linuxmce install and reboot.  Just goes to a blue screen with with a cursor in the lower left.  Or would it be better to build my own system with an nvidia card?  Or possibly go with the new raspberry pi b 3?

Thanks

Intel videos are supported pretty much out of the box now a days. Best thing you can do is try it out and report back. make sure you have two Network cards on your core. It is one of the requirement. I would remove any TV tuner cards out when trying it out.

Hope that helps.

karnold at first, Welcom here by Linuxmce.

A Raspberry pi is not fast enough to run a core.
There are good experiences with the Odroid XU4.
