Andrew,

I would like to point out that you are not advertising truthfully about the product.  Your CEC devices do not work with LinuxMCE unless the user creates their own driver in LinuxMCE for it.  It is my opinion that it is poor form to claim compatibility when there is none.

I clearly state that currently LinuxMCE users need to create a simple GSD device to interface to our CEC control firmware for Raspberry Pi - see http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=8880.msg100457#msg100457

Our Rest based API is easy to create a template for and In fact several LinuxMCE customers have already written basic device templates themselves and have those working now. I also have a device template in development that I will make freely available to the community shortly that can either be used as is or can of course be enhanced by anyone who cares to do so.

All the best

Hi Andrew,

When you do release a Device Template it will then be LinuxMCE compatible.  I appreciate that the rest interface may be easy for *some* people to create an interface for, the fact remains the device is not compatible until the user creates their own Device Template, as they would have to do for every other incompatible device in existence.  By your logic it could be said that all devices are compatible with LinuxMCE (of course that is if the user creates their own Device Template.)

"Support Added for CEC control of HDMI Switches from LinuxMCE" <- this simply is not true at the current time.

Thank you for clarifying your intentions to eventually make the device compatible with LinuxMCE.

Hi Jason,

I make it very clear to LinuxMCE users that they will need to create a simple GSD device before they can use any of our HDMI-CEC firmware in my main post about the software. There is no confusion on this AT ALL.

I have been participating and contributing in this forum, the wiki and LinuxMCE generally since the first day LinuxMCE existed and before that was very active in the Pluto forums and its development community too. CHT of course has also contributed large amounts of time, effort and software to LinuxMCE over that period too. So I would hope everyone here knows of me and understands they can place trust in me.

If anyone who has purchased any of my HDMI-CEC enabled software feels they were not aware of the need to create a small
GSD before they purchased a license then they can contact me and I will give them a full refund.

All the best

Hi Andrew,

You seem to be taking my position as a personally attack, I can assure you that nothing is farther from the truth.  I have never once suggested that you should not be selling your hardware/software through the forums here, or in conjuction with LinuxMCE, or supported in LinuxMCE when that is the case.  And I will never suggest that you should not be.

I have not, and never will, dispute that you have contributed greatly, and continue to contribute to LinuxMCE.  I, and everyone in the community, appreciate that greatly!  Let me say that again: *I* appreciate what you do and your contributions to the community greatly!  I have a great deal of respect for you Andrew.  It is because I wish to keep that respect that I brought this issue forward.

There is no confusion on this AT ALL.

This statement is false.  *I* am confused due to the subject of this thread "Support Added for CEC control of HDMI Switches from LinuxMCE".  There is no support in LinuxMCE for your device.  That is confusing to me, and I'm not the only one.

Hi Jason,

Firstly I am sure that if there were any confusion about the need currently to create your own GSD device to communicate with our HDMI-CEC products I would be the first one to hear about it or someone would have posted to this thread. No one has posted here stating they are confused about this either. Lastly if a customer who has already purchased one of our HDMI-CEC enabled firmware licenses was unhappy in any way they can post here or PM me for a refund.

As far as I know you, a person who is not a customer, are the only person who is 'confused'. But hopefully this thread has removed that confusion now.

All the best

Let's be clear.  I am not confused about the product you are offering or the extent (or not) of its' capabilities.  I am confused by the fact that your subject line claims there is support for it in LinuxMCE when there is not.  I would consider purchasing your product, and promote it to others for you, if it was actually supported from LinuxMCE.

Thank you for clarifying that you intend to add the needed Device Template(s) so that it can be 'supported from LinuxMCE' as you claim.

Hi Jason,

As I said in my initial, and follow up responses, we have customers who already have working GSD devices on their LinuxMCE systems and we will have the source code for a GSD available shortly that I will make freely available here. Every LinuxMCE customer who has purchased our HDMI-CEC firmware to date was, and is, fully aware that they will need to create their own simple GSD device currently, as we have made that clear in the posts relating to purchasing our firmware and again before they confirm their purchase. No one has been misled, tricked into purchasing our HDMI-CEC firmware. The only post where we have not mentioned the current need to create your own GSD device is the follow up post relating to our software having been updated to support HDMI-CEC enabled HDMI Switches ie this post. But of course now you and I have discussed this in depth, here in this thread, no one can be in anyway confused about this issue even if they only ever read this thread.

I would also ask any existing customer of our HDMI-CEC firmware to contact me directly if they need any help/support to create their own simple GSD device - or alternatively wait for our GSD device to be available.

Lastly if anyone is still confused, or felt they were not informed about needing to create a simple GSD device prior to purchasing our HDMI-CEC firmware for the Raspberry Pi, then they can post here or contact me directly and they can have a full refund.

All the best

Hi Andrew,

I appreciate your ongoing support of the LinuxMCE community and the expectations of our users when a product is advertised as 'supported'.  Thanks for clarifying, again, that you will add the appropriate DeviceTemplates, to LinuxMCE, to truly make this supported from LinuxMCE!  I look forward to the additions.

Jason
