12.04 Media director really slow to ssh and almost impossible to login at tty

Is anyone else experiencing this behaviour?

I must say, there have been a few aspects of MD setup that have been really slow - part of the AVWizard as I mentioned in another thread, but this too-

I can ssh into the media director from the core but it takes a long time - say a minute - before the login completes.

But on the MD itself, I try to go to a terminal (ctrl-alt-f2) and login and it just hangs after I put in my username... don't even get to password. When I say it hangs, the thing is still running, but that terminal is unresponsive.

Weird.... when I ssh in to the same MD (eventually) I run "top" and the thing is just ticking over at idle... anyone else finding this?

Note- MD worked fine under 10.04.

I'm going to try my NAS detection next then I'm going to try a MD (Acer Revo).

The slow SSH connection, in case it's related- when I ssh from core to md, using -vvv option, the delays are as follows:

It immediately gets to this point (below debug info) and then waits

And then it's another 1.5 minutes until you get the prompt.

Any ideas? Any reason the moon waits so long before accepting the public keys? And then the further delay before the login prompt? I expect to ssh into a local machine within 10seconds.

Just a quickie...

I just spent 10 hours trying to get a MD started.

Everything from nothing to having to create a TBZ.

Slow, slow, slow, patience, patience, patience.

Sorry, but my time with the Feb. 11/14 load has been nothing but problematic.

I'm going to downgrade to 10.04 for now.

None of these problems *appear* to be system problems with LMCE.  I (and none of the devs) are experiencing issues like this.  Ususally this is down to NIC problems or other network problems (cabling, switches)...

If it is related to my hardware.... then it's a specific combination of 12.04 because I switch back to 10.04 (just boot a different HDD in the exact same equipment and it's hunky dory.

I'm attempting a re-install with newer snapshot. If that sorts it I'll mark as solved.

Don't beat yourself up over the testing... there should be more of us doing it and this stuff would be picked up earlier. Sorry I took so long to get my 12.04 test station up. And you guys have been working really hard at it. Thank you.

  no problem.  We have identified an issue with the snapshot builder that has prevented updates from the last 4 weeks actually hitting the snapshot.  Working through the issues, hopefully have a shiny new snap today or tomorrow.
